MANPADs and Stingers can't reach that altitude of 33K FROM THE GROUND.
From an ultralight or mounted on a Piper Cub? Maybe.
Also, some of the data indicates it was still climbing to it's cruise altitude, not yet at 33,000 ft.
I wouldn't totally rule out a MANPAD just yet.
Reports that I've read stated the plane was less than 60km from the airport it took off from. At 725-885kph, that's what, 5-10 minutes after takeoff? I don't fly that much anymore myself but IIRC it took more than 5-10 minutes to reach 31,000 feet.
Something's not adding up here.
So that assumes you a buying that the plane was at flt level 33 k another unknown at this point or never to be known point
What if they were fired from a mountaintop as the plane was climbing. Lots of pretty high mountains there.
