AS Europe frets over what to do about the hundreds of thousands of refugees pouring onto the Continent, it occurs to me that the ancient Romans, as they so often do, might offer a solution.
The ancient Romans used to reward their legionnaires with plots of land, through a system known as “centuriation.†The Romans adopted the system in the fourth century B.C., when Rome was still a vibrant republic. But it lasted for hundreds of years, involving former servicemen from all over the empire.

Settling strangers on your territory is a great way to lose your territory, if not your country. Ask the Peruvians (1870's). Ask the Mexicans (1836). I think the Plains Indians might have something to add to the conversation, too.
Yes madness, Italy is broke and the place is not laid out like the USA. They have a city, then nothing for many miles and another village.

If we’re really interested in seeing how the Romans dealt with invasion, there’s several great examples to choose from, both positive and negative.
The invading Islamic hordes have done nothing to earn the land and represent a threat which doesn't deserve to be rewarded.

I visited Italy, a wonderful, very hospitable country, a few years ago. It struck me how few really “open spaces” there are there. It’s mostly cities and farm land, with few suburbs and exurban settlements, such as are common here in the US. Looks like the idea is to expropriate open land from native Italians and give it to Mudslime invaders. Of course, that’s exactly what Agenda 21 people would love to do here in the US to all of us who owm and live on more than a quarter of an acre.

I would say a large contingent of same has redressed the balance!
Why not Saudi Arabia? Plenty of island space in Indonesia.
