Reminder: Jimmy Carter banned all Iranians from entering US

This is just a reminder to all the liberal Democrats out there wringing their hands about Donald Trump's latest comments.

from Front Page:

During the Iranian hostage crisis, Carter issued a number of orders to put pressure on Iran. Among these, Iranians were banned from entering the United States unless they oppose the Shiite Islamist regime or had a medical emergency.

Here's Jimmy "Hitler" Carter saying it back in 1980.

"Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury (State) and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly."

Apparently barring people from a terrorist country is not against "our values" after all. It may even be "who we are". Either that or Carter was a racist monster just like Trump.

Meanwhile here's how the Iranian students in the US were treated.

Carter orders 50,000 Iranian students in US to report to immigration office with view to deporting those in violation of their visas. On 27 December 1979, US appeals court allows deportation of Iranian students found in violation.

In November 1979, the Attorney General had given all Iranian students one month to report to the local immigration office. Around 7,000 were found in violation of their visas. Around 15,000 Iranians were forced to leave the US.

I'm not even saying I agree with Trump. Personally, I don't think Trump actually believes he can "ban all Muslims including American citizens" (as the Democrats are framing it) from entering the US ... I think Trump is a marketing genius. You see, he knows that Americans will look at his statements, and then look at all the hand wringing from people like Hillary Clinton and Obama who claim that Islam has nothing to do with terror, and faced with that choice, people will align with him. He understands the politics of dichotomy, and when push comes to shove, people might not agree with Trump 100%, but they're way closer to him than the delusional excuses from Democrats.

Poor Richard's is a bad link ...

They apparently took their copy from Front Page Magazine and an article written by Daniel Greenfield

I apologize for not posting more correctly

When Carter put in his ban (which made sense then, as Trump’s would now), he banned Iranians, who are 99.9% Muslims, from entering.

If Trump had phrased his ban in terms of geography rather than religion, I think it would have accomplished the same thing, but been more palatable to some of his more rabid detractors.

After all, how are you going to tell if someone from those countries is Muslim or not? By asking? They lie like rugs.

“Carter orders 50,000 Iranian students in US to report to immigration office with view to deporting those in violation of their visas.”

It is hard to believe that we once has a president that would deport foreigners, simply because they were in violation of their visas.

Around 15,000 Iranians were forced to leave the US.

Did the New York Times and Washington Post describe it as 'rounding them up'... and compare Carter to Hitler?

I like what you said until the last paragraph. I believe future Commander in Chief Donald J. Trump is trying to protect America by forcing us to confront this very serious security issue. The American people don’t like sitting around waiting for the next Boston Bomber or Jihadi lovebirds who want to get their rocks off by blowing up good US citizens.

Trump is like that crazy uncle at Thanksgiving dinner. Everybody acts like they don’t like him, but he’s saying exactly what they are thinking.

I suspect the vast majority of Americans agree with him on this.

adding to his correctness (copied)

Islam, by law, is prohibited from US immigration
The Immigration and Nationality Act passed June 27, 1952 revised the laws relating to immigration, naturalization, and nationality for the United States. That act, which became Public Law 414, established both the law and the intent of Congress regarding the immigration of Aliens to the US and remains in effect today. Among the many issues it covers, one in particular, found in Chapter 2 Section 212, is the prohibition of entry to the US if the Alien belongs to an organization seeking to overthrow the government of the United States by “force, violence, or other unconstitutional means.” This, by its very definition, rules out Islamic immigration to the United States, but this law is being ignored by the White House.Islamic immigration to the US would be prohibited under this law because the Koran, Sharia Law and the Hadith all require complete submission to Islam, which is antithetical to the US government, the Constitution, and to the Republic. All Muslims who attest that the Koran is their life’s guiding principal subscribe to submission to Islam and its form of government. Now the political correct crowd would say that Islamists cannot be prohibited from entering the US because Islam is a religion. Whether it is a religion is immaterial because the law states that Aliens who are affiliated with any “organization” that advocates the overthrow of our government are prohibited

US law ALREADY provides for exclusion of certain classes of people.

See https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/8/1182 for a synopsis.

Trump is on solid ground!

Trump was smart about using religion. It has the liberals, media, and GOPe foaming at the mouth. Paul Ryan exposed himself yesterday. Never seen him that mad at Obama. Nobody would be talking about this isf it was not for Trump.

I agree, but if he had said, “Muslims coming from the MidEast have attacked us; stop MidEast immigration until this is resolved” it would have been less inflammatory, and practically, meant the same thing.

Maybe inflammatory is better, though.

It is hard to believe that we once has a president that would deport foreigners, simply because they were in violation of their visas.

It is also hard to believe we once had Republicans who were not afraid to be called racist when they tried to stop illegal voter importation by their opponents. :)
