Fifteen minutes after the second plane hit, GWB should have picked up the phone and fired CIA Director George Tenet. No excuses, no backtalk, no nothing, just fired.

And if he had the temerity to ask why, Bush should have told him, “Tenet, if you have to ask, you’re too damn dumb to be CIA Director.”

We pay untold billions of dollars for spies, analysts, and God knows whatever else every year, yet they always catch us with our pants down.

The WTC wasn't under surveillance even though it had been attacked a few years earlier. There were no eyes in the sky watching the Pentagon. Isn't that part of the total shock US citizens felt that day? We collectively realized that our nation's military was no longer being used to keep us safe.

If GWB hadn't worked toward fixing anything almost a year into his administration, would he ever have done so?

We need a President who can think strategically and anticipate scenarios that would otherwise catch us off guard. That's what a well-trained military provides. Trump's HS background isn't irrelevant. He learned that mindset, and seems to have used it throughout life.
