The Donald Trump juggernaut rolls to a 2-1 lead among Republican voters nationwide, with 39 percent, his highest total so far, followed by Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida with 19 percent and Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas with 18 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University National poll released today. Ohio Gov. John Kasich has 6 percent with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Dr. Ben Carson at 4 percent each. Nine percent are undecided.

This compares to the results of a February 5 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University, showing Trump with 31 percent, Cruz with 22 percent and Rubio with 19 percent.

Because it makes no sense that Cruz would do better than Trump in the general. He’s touted as the most conservative, most Christian - which should have him screaming ahead with Republicans- which he is not. So him doing better amongst independents and crossovers makes no sense at all. Most politicians move to the middle to appeal to those groups. Also Trump’s support comes from all swaths of Republican voters - setting him up well for the general. Cruz’s appeal is limited to ultra-conservative (which I am but support Trump) and evangelical.

Thirdly, Trump hasn’t gone after Clinton or Bernie yet. Polls showed Carter winning too.

Her candidacy won't survive six more weeks.

I am wondering about her health. Yet another coughing attack this week.

Has Quinnipiac ever been accurate? Not that I can remember. Liberal BS polling.

I’m a Cruz supporter, but open to DT changing my mind.
For starters, DT has to stop acting like a juvenile with his rhetoric and facial expressions.

I’m sorry but Cruz has totally lost me at this point. I think Trump will be able to manage anyone he nominates as VP. It no longer has to be Cruz. In fact, I hope it isn’t.

The Cruz people here on FR probably don’t believe I ever supported him, but I did, when he first came on the scene.......and sent money, or at least my husband did

But I was seeing red flags and having reservations about Cruz over ten months ago....even to the point of despair that he might NOT be the one

....and when Trump declared June 16th and I heard....WALL....he had my attention.

NOW I am solidly a Trump fan, and would send him money, but he doesn’t want it
I do order merchandise and write encouragement notes and pray for him daily!

But yesterday Ted Cruz remembered my long ago donation and I received a letter in the mail & on the envelope says there’s a check enclosed!!!

Well, he actually wanted ME to enclose a check so he could match it....sheesh!

I’m so glad Mr. Trump doesn’t do this!
Mr. Trump has given me so much HOPE for the future of our country!!!!
God Bless this man!

Ted IS doing great for his first run. So is Trump!

This —> “cruz wins by 1 donald loses by 3.”

That is basically a dead heat. There is nothing definitive about those numbers.

Who cares if he likes government-run healthcare and Planned Parenthood, right?

All hail the NY demagogue.

” I think his purpose is to divide conservatives because this is the only way a very flawed Liberal Democrat can worm her way into the WH. “

I think we Conservatives are doing a good enough job of that on our own. Someone will come along to tell me I’m not conservative after this post....which will prove the point again.

Yea, it does appear that Trump’s so-called ‘ceiling’ is increasing. Hopefully Trump’s SC results come close to matching this poll, if they do, then almost certainly Bush will be put out to pasture, hopefully before his mother drops dead from being dragged around the country for by him.

I’m just tired of the Trump/Bush back and forth, even though Trump has to do what he’s doing. Bush has the money and connections to come back to life if he’s not KO’d, and unlike Romney (against Obama) Trump has NO PLANS to allow that to happen.

Then, hopefully, we can finish off Rubio and wind this thing up with Trump and Cruz teaming together (they still have way more in common than not in common).

(Cruz only winning in the “Very Conservative Group”)

“So then I guess I’m right in supporting Cruz.”

It depends, if our side wants to lose with dignity by running a candidate only likeable to the Tea Party in November, then yes.

If our side wants to nominate someone that has shown the ability to reach nearly everyone in this country, except hard-core Socialists, and be able to win in November, then no.

It was absolutely GREAT yesterday that Obama said Trump will NEVER be president - WOW what a positive statement for Trump. It’s gonna make people look at him again if Obama is against him.

Strange that you should say that....

I believe if Trump wins God will favor the USA with hope to build up our military and give us a fighting chance to defend ourselves....

2024.....who knows......the powers of darkness are unleashed and
....although I think Trump will valiantly lead and direct our military to stand unbowed...
....damage has been done

But I would rather go out with my head high and our nation respected...
..than the cowering impression we give the world today......thanks to GW Bush...Clinton ( his brother by another mother) and Obama

After all, God was set to destroy Nineveh....
...but they repented.....He relented......for a while
