Are you kidding me? By the mid-20’s all the Jews had been purged. Look what Stalin did to Trotsky. That played out on every level. My father and his family had to flee in 1926 because it was becoming impossible to live there. My grandfather had a little store in a medium sized city in the Ukraine and Jews were easy targets for roving bands of cossacks, with the government looking the other way. You seem smart and well-read. If you think Jews were responsible for the horrors of the Stalinist murders, when they were actually among the most salient victims, then you aren’t reading the right books. Again, this is something I know from my family, in addition to what I’ve read. That there were Jewish leftists in American who remained willfully blind to Stalin’s crimes - yeah, that’s for sure true, and a sad stain on us.

Some important facts to remember:

Between 1881 & 1920 about two million Jews left Russia due to discrimination, persecutions, pogroms, arrests, beatings & other state-sponsored anti-Jewish actions.
At the same time, some Jews joined many political organizations, covering the entire political spectrum, from anarchists & Bolsheviks to Constitutional Democrats.
Among Bolsheviks, from the time of the Revolution (1917) until the 1930s, Jews comprised about 5% overall, up to 20% in some leadership roles.
During the 1930s purges, Stalin largely eliminated Jews from senior party, government, diplomatic, security and military positions.
The best known of his Jewish victims was Leon Trotsky.
As a boy, Stalin himself attended a Greek Orthodox priesthood school and the leading Russian Orthodox seminary in Tiflis, Georgia's capital.
Historians these days typically put the total death toll from Stalin's tyranny at around 20 million, which roughly matches the 20 million non-combatants (including six million Jews) killed by Hitler's policies during WWII.

So, if we were somehow to blame any religion for Stalin's murders, those would be the Greek and Russian Orthodox, since he was trained by them, and for Hitler the Roman Catholics who taught him.
But of course, that's totally absurd, since both Stalin and Hitler were certainly atheists whose only "god" was themselves, their ideologies and their all-powerful governments.

Jews were their victims, not perpetrators.

Stalin purged all of the Jewish Bolsheviks, not only Trotsky, but Kamenev and Zinoiev as well.

In fact, Stalin was very happy to have Hitler do his dirty work for him at Babi Yar, before Stalin decided to get serious and win the war.
