It’s a question of what decade you’re talking about. Of course there were Jewish Bolsheviks. Trotsky. Duh. Later they were purged. Ice pick? Mexico City? Jews had horrific lives in the Soviet Union as time went on. By the mid-20’s life was intolerable. I have my father, his siblings and my grandparents as primary sources on that. The Jews who may have hung on in the echelons of power for a little longer were toadies and traitors, and in the end they met their ends.
The problem is that you don’t see the prejudiced ugly thinking behind some of those videos. And I have no greater chance of making you see that than I have with any of the other peopleI’ve crossed paths with in my life who had an idea of what “the Jews” were like.
My grandmother’s eight brothers were murdered, and my grandmother herself tormented, by people who had broad preconceived notions, every one of them false, about who we are.
Nothing will make you see that. I asked my grandmother how she managed to survive Maidanek. She told me the one thing that got her through: gratitude that she didn’t have to live inside the heads of her tormentors. That she wasn’t one of them.
I’m thinking your post #61 was intended for IChing, not BroJoeK.
Free Republic does not tolerate blatant racists or antisemites, so people like IChing only dare to vaguely hint at their real beliefs, but then must soon run away when seriously challenged.
I for one greatly appreciate and thank you for your posts and personal experience on these matters.
Statistics are one thing — “millions dead” — but personal experiences such as “my grandparents escaped persecution” have a very different quality.
Thanks again.
