Another Western intervention in Libya looms
The Washington Post ^ | April 3, 2016 | Missy Ryan and Sudarsan Raghavan

The shaky debut last week of a new unity government in Libya brings Western nations, including the United States, much closer to a renewed military mission there, and to a host of obstacles that will test their ability to secure a country gripped by Islamist extremism and civil war.

Tensions ran high on Wednesday after Fayez Serraj, a little-known Libyan technocrat selected as prime minister in a United Nations peace process, arrived by boat in Tripoli from Tunisia. Western officials hailed his installation in the Libyan capital as a sign that the country’s two-year political divide is finally coming to an end — despite the existence of rival governments in Tripoli and the country’s east.

The United States and European allies, including Italy, France and Britain, have made the unity government’s establishment a key precondition for launching twin missions to begin an international stabilization effort and help combat a growing Islamic State affiliate there.

The Libyan mess has been spilling over the border into Tunisia in recent months with talk of an Italian led force including British military being deployed to help.

“The Guardian” published this last month.

Fact of the matter is, the unwinding of the European empires was s bad thing. For the world in general and for their former colonies in particular.

Ironic that Italy, the former colonial power, is going to be sending its troops back into Libya.

things were manageable under the despots. Hit them hard like Reagan did and they shut up long enough.

there was no reason to take out the despots.

They were bad. This is much much worse

If we didn’t bomb Qadaffi’s troops, none of this would be happening. Qadaffi’s troops were in a middle of a counter offensive when the West decided to intervene in Libyan Civil War. The problem was that we had no plans after we bombed the regime into oblivion. And all of this is happening today so it’s not a surprise that it’s becoming a stronghold for ISIS.

Installing a western puppet eh? What could possibly go wrong?

We didn't even bother to do that.

“The shaky debut last week of a new unity government in Libya...”

Another Obama/Hillary/Kerry fantasy reported by the WaPo.

And no GOPe comment on the cause or result of the administration’s policies.

didn’t know that.

there was no reason to get involved at all.

Qadaffi was coming around if anything. He finally realized to keep power he better play ball with us.

then this #### Obama got into office and basically, essentially destroyed the future of the world if nothing changes and fast.

France and United Kingdom wanted to bomb Libya. They manipulated Obama into helping to bomb the country.

Can anyone please explain why we went to war and overthrew Gaddafi in the first place?

I never did hear a legitimate rational or justification.

BTW, President Obama instituted rules of engagement that are almost impossible to operate under militarily and he will not allow our military to bomb or attack the enemy to “avoid civilian collateral damage” regardless of how remote the chance of hurting civilians is.

These has hamstrung our military to the point where our casualties have doubled under Obama and contributed to the rise of ISIS and the resurgence of the Muslim Brotherhood World Wide Islamic Jihad movement and it's march to world wide violent revolution and terrorism.

However, in Libya, President Obama had no qualms what some ever about indiscriminate bombing with no regard for civilian casualties in his rush to depose Gaddafi and install a Muslim Brotherhood controlled government.

We had to free up the area so Iran can fandangle it’s way to launch some missiles from Libya at Israel and blame who knows to further zero’s legacy.
