didn’t they have one yesterday too?
Did you spill any coffee?
Slight sea-level changes may be observed in coastal regions, but no tsunami damage is expected.
That was kind of a hard to read map. How close was this to Tokyo? Looks like same region as yesterday’s quake, but hard to tell on the map at the website above.
According to USGS, this earthquake is 5 km east-northeast of Kumamoto at a depth of only 10 km. I’m afraid the damage to the city of Kumamoto is going to be substantial. :-( They’ll probably eventually suspend all Kyushu Shinkansen services south of Kurume.
Another one? Yikes!
They had a 6.4 the other day and it was part of a flurry that made them suspect a big one was coming.
I was in Hawaii two weeks ago and we had a 4.6.
I’m in CA with strange cold windy earthquake weather. This could be it, if part of us sinks into the ocean, remember I had said to by beach front property in Victorville.
Big ones all week rocking and rolling around the world.
Pager (USGS’s damage estimation alert system) puts nearly a million people in the severe shaking range. And it wasn’t very deep either (just 10km)

“I’ve got some oceanfront property in ArizOna....”

WattsUpWithThat had a posting on this today:

Very sorry to see that news. All-in-all, the Japanese people are tough, smart and resilient. They’ll get through it! Maybe other nations (like our own) will show their generous and charitable side to Japan now, too, and help those people.
Looks like several good sized aftershocks - 5.8, 5.7 and 4.7.

There were two yesterday and three today. 5.7 was the small one 7.0 the largest.
Prayers for them.
