This move is backed by 0bama and Putin, so what that means is the Russians will do the heavy lifting against the Israelis, while 0bama cuts all aid to Israel. The first strategic target will be Mt Hermon from which the Syrians/Russians can control all Israel’s airspace.
ISIS will attack from its stronghold at the corner of the Israeli-Jordan border; Hezbollah will launch its most powerful Iranian/Russian supplied rockets and best fighters; Hamas attacks from the south - if it can get out of its current financial difficulties.
Israel will put up a good fight, but without US aid it will lose the Golan with very heavy casualties - both military and civilian.
I would put 6 months of paychecks to bet on the Israelis in that match up...
Israel has a greater ally than the U.S. and isn't going to lose...
That is a worst-case scenario indeed, but it is one that the IDF is well aware of and has been planning for for years. They will literally blacken the skies over southern Lebanon with fighters, bombers, choppers and drones in addition to the deployment of Patriot batteries, Iron Dome and David’s Sling anti-missile systems. This will be complemented by hundreds of 155mm artillery pieces.
Israel’s performance against Hezbollah in 2006 was widely criticized. As a result, the IDF conducted a major review of the causes. My take (FWIW) is that Israel’s current posture is “fool me once, shame on you, etc...”. They aren’t going to get burned again. For example, they won’t repeat the mistake of a tentative mobilization or targeting strategy which was slow to catch up with the need to hit missile batteries effectively.
And, of course, as someone else said, the most important thing is Israel has a much more powerful ally than the United States. While I’m at it, G-d Bless America.
