I’m 69. Big fan. Never understood his life, but he was popular in his home city and helped local groups and fostered a few people who had hits etc. He was a genius for my money. Unique, his own sound. His songs are not just rock, funk, but different riffs, and he did a lot of things with his voice others couldn’t do. My son is a very good musician and he’s one of the people he looks up to even thought he doesn’t sing the same style.
Somebody commented Elton had a great writer, but Prince did everything and took on the industry and ran his own business. I don’t know what these people go through, but I think the world of rock lost one of it’s most talented people.

Yup, his style was truly unique.

Wonderfully stated! I agree he was one of a kind.
Well said, and I agree completely. A talented guy on many levels, and a musician in the truest sense of the word. This is a big loss.
Don’t know if anyone on the thread has posted the youtube of him with the Muppets doing a “breakfast song,” but it’s terrific. Shows the mild-mannered, humorous guy behind the flashy legend. Good song, too. :)
Check it out.
