Israel and Turkey on Sunday reached agreement to normalize ties, a senior Israeli official said, to end a six-year rift over the Israeli navy’s killing of 10 Turkish pro-Palestinian activists who tried to sail to the blockaded Gaza Strip in 2010.

The Turkish foreign ministry had no immediate comment on the deal but an announcement on the restoration of ties was expected on Monday at 1000 GMT by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in Rome, and Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim in Ankara.

Netanyahu travelled to Rome on Sunday to meet US Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli and Turkish officials were also in the Italian capital to finalize the deal.

Yet another thing the previous secretary of state can’t claim as a victory. She must be rather annoyed at the moment...

Turkey was the ruling power over Israel when the first wave of Jewish settlement began over 100 years ago.

Israel would probably like to be friendly with the Erdogan regime because Erdogan has been unfriendly to a nation allied with Iran, Russia.

I have read Turkey is supportive of the Islamic State.

In its heart Israel would like to see Assad go down because he, too, is allied with Iran.

The nexus of anti-Assad forces who promoted the intervention in Syria’s Civil War like the Neocons in America are also part of the pro-Israel forces in the world.

For better or worse, Israel wants good relations with Turkey ruled by the Islamist lite Erdogan.

Dealing with mid east nations is like choosing between Hillary and Valerie Jarrett for an intimate evening.

Turkey is not to be trusted. They sent a terror flotilla to break Israel's very much justified blockade of Gaza.
When Israeli commandos proceeded to board their boat they soldiers were nearly killed so they defended themselves by killing the terrorist passengers. Then Israel HAD TO FRIGGIN’ APOLOGIZE for defending their soldier's lives??? And now more appeasement?

There is something behind this for ‘better’ or ‘worse’.

I argue with many folks about Nixon’s kissing up to Communists in in general and China in the 1970’s and where that leaves us today.

They still insist it was the right thing to do.
