Holding up a copy of the U.S. Constitution to make his point, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said that a Republican-introduced gun bill will prevent terrorists from obtaining weapons while not infringing on Americans’ due process and Second Amendment rights.
“There isn’t a person in Congress that wants a terrorist to get a gun. But we also want to make sure that we do not undermine those ongoing terrorist investigations that law enforcement is conducting,” Ryan said Wednesday at the Republican National Committee (RNC) in Washington. […]
Ryan characterized the Homeland Safety and Security Act, which House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) introduced last Friday, as just “common sense,” noting that part of the legislation incorporates text from another bill (H.R. 4237) introduced by Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) last December to block terrorists from buying guns.
McCarthy’s bill would give the Attorney General authority to block the sale of a gun to a known or suspected terrorist for three business days while an emergency petition showing probable cause to believe the suspect intends to commit an act of terrorism is filed in court. …

In 1966, Charles Whitman murdered 16 people and injured 33 others Most of the killings was done with a bolt action rifle, and an M-1 carbine for backup. He stabbed his wife and his mother to death first.

If politicians really want to do something useful about terrorism, then 1) impose a total ban on Moslem immigration, 2) revoke the citizenship of any Moslem with ties to terrorist orgs; 3) deport the millions of Moslems who are here legally but who don't yet have citizenship; and 4) surveil the heck out of terrorist front establishments, aka mosques.
