Trib Total Media to drop print edition in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ^ | September 29 | Joyce Gannon

Posted on 09/30/2016 7:23:38 AM PDT by PghBaldy

Trib Total Media will stop publishing the print edition of its Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper after Nov. 30 and will lay off about 20 percent of its workforce as it downsizes its print operations and beefs up its digital presence.

The changes and cuts announced Wednesday — including the planned layoffs of 106 employees — are the latest moves in a dramatic restructuring of Trib Total Media that began last year and has included employee buyouts, layoffs, closing some papers, selling others and cutting back delivery in Allegheny County.

Sad about this. It is my local paper. Does a much better job all around than the Toledo Blade (AKA Post Gazette). My mother is sad.

They were dropping hints about this on the 93.7 sports talk station the other day.

Utterly predictable though. This was Dick Scaife’s baby. Now that he’s gone his family does not want to continue pouring the estate down a black hole.

I know papers are dying but this I think is the first major paper in the country. Very amazing. I also am surprised since Pennsylvania has the 3rd largest over 65 year old population and I would imagine a percentage don’t have Internet.

I think it does better in the burbs. When I go to buy am paper here in burbs of Pittsburgh, there is a stack of Post Gazette and often just a few left of the Trib. When I was a liberal, the Trib gave me and my friends a better shake than the lib paper!

This is sad, and I hope it’s not some kind of barometer for election trends in Pennsylvania. It was one of the few papers that aired conservative viewpoints. My parents still enjoyed it as a balance to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Teresa Heinz Kerry speaking to Pennsylvania delegates of the 2004 Democratic National Convention at the Massachusetts Statehouse on Monday, July 26, 2004, first day of the convention: “We need to turn back some of the creeping, un-Pennsylvanian, and sometimes un-American traits that are coming into some of our politics.”

After the speech she was questioned by reporter Colin McNickle of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review: “...did you mean by un-American?... You mentioned ‘un-American’...”

Heinz Kerry: “No, I didn’t say that.”

McNickle: “What did you mean?”

Can't believe the cost of these rags.

Bought the Herald Standard (Uniontown)a few months ago for the classifieds.

$1.50 for the daily!

I hope it’s not some kind of barometer for election trends in Pennsylvania Don't think so. As was said above in another post, Richard Mellon Scaife owned the paper. He passed away. It turned out he'd been running the paper at a loss for decades, subsidizing it from a large trust fund that was maybe supposed to be for the kids. On his passing, he left the large trust fund to the paper. The children contested the will and the court then froze the trust fund until the issue was decided. Freezing the trust fund was what precipitated the Trib's problems. As far as I know, the matter is still in the court.

I don’t think this has anything to do with election trends.

This has to do with the slow-roll death of dead tree media in general. And with the fact that the Scaife Family does not share their late father’s enthusiasm for subsidizing it.

THANK GOD. It appears these Marxist cretins have overstepped and folks are waking up.

US MEDIA AND THE MARXIST FRANKFURT SCHOOL
Still perplexed about WHY this CRAP keeps happening in and to this country and just never seems to end? This will clear it all up!
THE US MEDIA and OTHER CENTERS OF INFLUENCE AND THE MARXIST FRANKFURT SCHOOL!

This long forgotten – or completely UNKNOWN among the “snowflakes” and “yutes” — HISTORY of the close relationship between the leftist “educated” (indoctrinated is more like it) “pseudo elite” dumb asses being churned out of colleges and universities here and the Marxist socialism (which, if not strangled in its crib, has ALWAYS morphed into communism) that has failed everywhere it has been tried may aid your understanding of the media’s vicious hatred of Trump and his supporters (the now infamous “DEPLORABLES”).

The sad fact is that the media here is overwhelmingly populated by these deluded dumb asses! Any nefarious, otherwise disreputable act by them is acceptable — even encouraged — because, according to Marxist/socialist methodology, all that matters is “THE STRUGGLE” for their insane Utopian workers’ paradise where all will be equal but some — including most of THEM — will be more equal than others!

You may be growing weary of hearing this but I’ll keep reminding folks until we reach the critical mass needed to defeat them. During Hitler’s rise to power as head of the Nazi (National SOCIALIST) Party in the 30s, he was greatly aided by one Ernst Rohm, head of the SA. Once Hitler had gained total control of Germany, in 1934 he purged (that’s be KILLED!) the party of EVERY member he felt might challenge his position. His old friend, Herr Rohm was rewarded for his help with a bullet in his brain in a jail cell!

Should this — this — WOMAN and her criminal crew prevail in November, it is my fervent prayer that those who aided her rise suffer similar fates — especially those in the media who have committed countless acts of the sort now the norm in the mendacious media here.

Impossible say you? The most dangerous phrase in ANY language is “Why THAT could NEVER HAPPEN HERE!”

I believe the expression that best characterizes the relationship between the media and the Clintons is the old one from the 50s: FELLOW TRAVELERS! You “snowflakes”and “yutes” will need to look it up as I doubt your teachers brought it to your attention.

Years ago, Dr. Gary North predicted that the radical left would capture America with the insane and human nature denying goal of “transforming” it into an egalitarian unicorn and rainbow Utopia by “capturing the ROBES”. By that, he meant those institutions we granted various levels of authority over us and our affairs: The clergy, the judges... and the ACADEMICS.

The roots of the problems in academia flow back to something referred to as the Frankfurt School and their 1935 move to COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY and the spread of Marxist thought (now there’s an oxymoron for ya’!) into every area of learning here.

A prime example of the rot now endemic in the academy is the COLUMBIA SCHOOL OF “JOURNALISM”. It is THE premier center for spreading Marxism here in America and it has been incredibly successful in its destruction of traditional and American values. Not only do its direct graduates permeate the media here, but many of them also double as teachers in lesser known institutions of media instruction. Herein lies the genesis of Limbaugh’s descriptive expression “Driveby Media”. Now you know why virtually every so-called “journalist” HATES folks like us.

The Wikipedia entry says that the “...FRANKFURT SCHOOL was founded in 1923 by Carl Grünberg, a Marxist legal and political professor at the University of Vienna,[10] as an adjunct of the University of Frankfurt; it was the first Marxist-oriented research center affiliated with a major German university.[3] However, the school can trace its earliest roots back to Felix Weil, who used money from his father’s grain business to finance the Institute. “

Isn’t it fascinating that here is an early instance of a Marxist ANTI-CAPITALIST organization financing itself with the hated PROFITS of a capitalist business? The hypocrisy is mind-boggling and a precursor to how the wealthy capitalists here fund the Clinton and other leftist machines!

More recent examples of that dichotomy would be the offspring of John D. Rockefeller who have largely spent their lives promoting socialism (using other people’s money, of course). And recently Bill Gates treated us to the wisdom that only SOCIALISM can solve the woes of this world. What these folks refuse to acknowledge that even THEY do not possess sufficient personal wealth to make a dent in those woes if the recipients of that largess are incapable of sustaining themselves once the largess stops flowing or is exhausted.

If one examines the life of Karl Marx, we find a bum who abandoned his wife and family to advance the socialist struggle and never worked or dirtied his hands at day in his life. That sort of thing was for the bourgeoisie, not such an exalted personage as himself. His guilt over that abandonment probably explains Karl’s fondness for state welfare paid for by the labor of others so that his abandoned family wouldn’t perish (not that a mensch like Karl gave a rat’s ass).
