Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) on Tuesday signed into law a measure banning abortions 20 weeks after conception, but vetoed a measure that would have outlawed abortion after as few as six weeks. The bill Kasich vetoed, known as a heartbeat bill, passed Ohios legislature along mostly partisan lines last week and would have made abortions illegal once a fetus's heartbeat is detected. But even groups that oppose abortion rights believed the measure would fail in the face of an expected court challenge; Ohio Right to Life asked Kasich on Monday to veto the bill.
Lower courts have struck down similar laws in North Dakota and Arkansas, and the Supreme Court has refused to hear appeals of those decisions. Ohios Republican-dominated legislature passed the 20-week abortion ban just days after the heartbeat bill. The 20-week ban has been upheld by courts in several other states. Fifteen states currently ban abortions after 20 weeks.
Both are pre-viability bans, but we believe [the 20-week ban] is the best strategy for overturning Roe v. Wade and will ultimately prove most palatable to the Supreme Court, Franklin said. Its not just the Ohio strategy but the national strategy.
Katherine Franklin, a spokeswoman for Ohio Right to Life, said in an email her group backs the 20-week abortion ban instead.

Sadly and grotesquely, the number of baby killings is likely an accurate way of indirectly gaining a more accurate number of illegal immigrantes estan aqui en Estados Unidos.
My thoughts are in post #28.
See post #63.
And why would one win in court and not the other?
Thank you for facts.
If you are dead when your heart stops (I know it can be restarted sometimes) then you should be alive when your heart starts beating.
Kasich is finished anyway. Ohio went Trump in a land slide, and that’s with Kasich refusing to allow Trump use of his Ohio Republican infrastructure.
Kasich is looking over his shoulder repeatedly.
I would have to guess. My guess would be that one is FAR more restrictive than the other.
The 20-week ban has been upheld by courts in several other states. Fifteen states currently ban abortions after 20 weeks.
That’s the most simple, BEST answer I’ve ever seen or heard regarding abortion.
They cry foul for experiments on rats but abortion, meh.
Thanks. It sure seems like we’re getting some precedent.
“(Kasich is) a detestable coward.”
I’m surprised that you like him so much! (-:
Incrementalism is the strategy that devious Rightists are using against abortion. Incrementalism is also the strategy the Leftists are using against gunrights.
How this cannot be understood by people, shows how few people understand strategy, especially long term strategy and wars of attrition.
It’s funny. I don’t hear Democrats saying they need to abandon their principals on anything because they don’t want to “take it slow”.
Democrats sign bill after bill after bill on things they know will get overturned in court. They don’t care. They just keep plowing ahead. They don’t wring their hands over signing gun grabbing legislation. They don’t give a second thought to sanctuary cities. They don’t hesitate to steal state and local authority and unconstitutionally give it to the federal government. They just do it. And when they are denied, they wait a year or two and do it again.
30 years of the “moderate level headed incrementalism” approach has left us 20 trillion in debt with millions of dead babies, a broken economy, a neutered military, a globalist cabal of leaders in Washington, a third world subculture in our cities, millions of illegal immigrants, etc...
No thanks.
I would like to try the Cruz/Paul approach for once. The Democrats seem to have success with it.
Kasich is a scum bag. He had the opportunity to strike a win for life and he chose not to.
Agree. “Fifteen states currently ban abortions after 20 weeks.” Thus, Kasich saw the writing on the wall and passed the 20 weeks bill. Next step, all fifty states passing the 20 week bill. Then heartbeat bill. Then delete Roe v Wade.
Kasich was a RINO, is a RINO and will always be a RINO. Kasich doesn’t understand that RINOs lose elections and lose on the issues. Kasich is a loser. Kasich and his ilk have a habit of surrenders to the likes of BHO, the Clintons, or other ultra leftists like baby killer Wendy Davis or that imbecile Kamala Harris. Kasich refused to vote for a conservative for president. What more can be said?
More importantly, let God sort them out.
wake up people. Passing the Heartbeat bill now only leads to a 5-4 decision strengthening Roe v Wade and making a campaign issue for leftists to crusade upon. I certainly don’t like the fact that he vetoed it. Hell, i hate that no governor or president has had the cajones to face this issue head on and defy the Supreme Court. However, once Trump seats a conservative to replace one of the progressive justices, we can fight this issue with unrelenting vigor.
Naw. Two for sure. There’s no way Ginsburg makes it another 8 years.
