More Evidence of a Wet Sahara

by Jake Hebert, Ph.D. *

Scientists from the University of Arizona recently announced that what is now the Sahara desert was once wet and green and extended as far north as the Mediterranean Sea.1,2

The scientists examined chemical clues found within leaf waxes preserved in four marine sediment cores located off the northwestern African coast. Plants experience subtle changes in the chemical composition of their wax, depending upon the wetness or dryness of the climate. Because leaf wax washes into the oceans, it can be preserved in sediment cores extracted from the ocean floor. Hence, this team of researchers used wax chemical clues found within these cores to infer past climate conditions in the Sahara. The scientists estimated that past Saharan rainfall was ten times greater than today's between 5,000 and 11,000 years ago.1,2

From the article:

“Generally speaking, computing atmospheric circulation during the post-Flood Ice Age is difficult, but it would not be surprising if areas that are very dry today received much greater rainfall at that time.5 Hence, the post-Flood Ice Age—part of the creation model—helps explain why the Sahara, the American Southwest, and the Middle East received much more rainfall in the not-too-distant past.

We can take two important lessons from this. First, the conclusion of increased Saharan rainfall in the recent past is in perfect agreement with the history recorded in Genesis, even though the ages uniformitarians assigned to this wet Sahara are off. Second, that such dramatic climate change—including an Ice Age and a wet Sahara—occurred in the recent past should help put current concerns over human-caused climate change into perspective.”

Maybe the natives cut down all the trees for firewood...like they did in Haiti.

Or to avoid taxation, like in parts of the Middle East.

Once Islam had conquered all of north Africa and exterminated Christianity there, God cursed the land and turned it into desert. Seriously.

I do not see this as evidence for creationism or evolution.

It just shows that there has been significant climate change in the last few thousand years.

I did not think anyone disputed that assertion.

In short, this wet age was immediately after the close of the Younger Dryas which ended an incredibly cold of climate, brought on by a mile diameter meteor collision for which there is some evidence.

IIRC, there is evidence of erosion caused by water at the base of the Sphynx.

Your timing is off. It was desert long before Islam raised its ugly head.

The Sahara was a desert before the Romans.

Islam destroyed the fertile coastal areas because they destroyed the terracing and irrigation systems through their lack of property rights and the their inability presevere the cultural knowledge necessary for the maintenance of such agricultural infrastructure.

It happened all around the Mediterranean. Archeologicaly it is known as the “new fill”.

The Sahara was once a fertile, lush, vibrant, tropical rain forest(aka...jungle)

Then Chuck Norris came along and lit one fart.

Years ago, ground penetrating radar pics showed river beds and petrified forests underneath all that sand.

Must have been climate change cause by all those Egyptians driving SUV Chariots...........

Infra red and ground penetrating satellite imagery released by NASA concluded this at least a decade ago.

This is well known. During the last ice age what is now the Sahara Desert was like the savannahs of East Africa, well watered and filled with wild life. As these cycles go the warm interludes, like the one we are still living in, are much shorter than the deep freezes. And there isn't a single damned thing we can do to affect or alter the cycle. Like our ancestors we can only adapt and migrate.

As a side note, the water erosion marks on the base and original stone of the Sphynx is one indicator that monument dates back many thousands of years earlier than supposed.

It all has to do with the earths rotation and the solar flair cycles, according to a documentary movie put on by experts who studied this.

Goes for the rest of the earth also. There is climate change and it isnt caused by humans.

I tell you this, I live in the high desert, and if we keep getting those nice gentle rains we have been getting, in N. AZ, the desert will bloom like everything this year.

heh heh

This is talking about 6000 or so years ago. The timing is that Egyptian civilization arose around the time that the Sahara area was drying out and turning to desert.

Mudslimes destroy civilization wherever it’s found, although sometimes a mudslime ruler goes native and allows some civilization before his dynasty is destroyed for being infidel.

There’s no doubt the Land of Israel is cursed to be inhospitable without a lot of Jews there.

Yep, shoulda started taxing CO2 10k years ago. Is it too late now?

Thats a fine story. But, the earth changes really slowly. Then all at once.

13K to 15K???

Some of the primitive astronomical observatory alignments built into megaliths constructed upon the Giza plateau, only work with stellar positions dating to that time frame.
