The father of a Navy Seal killed in a raid in Yemen last month has demanded an investigation into the planning and timing of what he called a stupid mission.
Bill Owens also told the Miami Herald he refused to meet Donald Trump when he and the president went to Dover air force base in Delaware to receive the casket carrying his son, William Ryan Owens.
My conscience wouldnt let me talk to him, he said.
The younger Owens was the only US fatality in the 29 January raid on a suspected al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula compound. Three US personnel were injured and the Pentagon said 14 militants were killed. One US aircraft was destroyed after being damaged on landing.

Bad intelligence, or a setup. The person who was responsible for this mission should be examined very closely in my opinion. I also have questions regarding the source of the intelligence. Was it someone that was supposedly trustworthy in Yemen?
Supposedly they gathered a lot of actionable intelligence from the mission, so it was not a silly or even a stupid mission. While I sincerely empathize with the father for his loss, he is being totally disingenuous blaming Trump, and he knows it.
Cue Cindy Sheehan replacement...just in time - the media has saved us as Trump takes over...
The article doesn’t mention the father’s politics, trying to hide the real reasons for his anger against Trump.
The father has outed himself as being stupid! God Bless the son!
Per the Miami Herald article:
Among his father’s mementos theres a photo of Ryan sitting on the floor in the White House playing with Obamas dogs.

Two things were will never have again...a Declaration of War, and national sacrifice to support a War. Just perpetual “combat operations” carried out by the 1% that serve paid for by the national credit card.
By all means look into this mission. It might shed light on who leaked the information that compromised it.
If it were my son who was killed in that same action, and I refused to meet with the President of the United States when his body was returned, Id hope that there would be enough Americans who truly love their country and who can appreciate what our fighting men do for us, that they would stand up and tell me to take flying leap off the nearest cliff. This father is an ungrateful and disgraceful American.
Those of us who served know all too well how many times we wondered “why”. But we said nothing because we knew that it would only serve the enemy by demoralizing the guys sitting on either side of us. This father should know that as well as anyone, and for him to question this mission at this times not an exception.
The father voted for Mrs. Bill Clinton to be his son's commander-in-chief. He can take his gold star and go straight to hell.
I agree. Hopefully he won’t get into Cindy’s ditch...
Yep, after 8 yrs of radio silence....NOW comes the anti war crowd....
While we can mourn with Bill Owens over the death of his son, I can also see that Bill Owens has stepped all over the honor and integrity in the service of the Nation by his son. It’s a shame that amy father would do that, despite the overwhelming grief and loss.
What about the Seals at Benghazi? Was he concerned then?
The man is grieving. He will always grieve. I hope he will accept the facts when he learns what happened. I hope the truth can be revealed.
The most difficult decisions presidents face involve sending folks into harm’s way. Everything doesn’t always go as planned or hoped.
Daddy is a dummy. PRESIDENT Trump had been the president for nine days. I doubt this raid was planned during that NINE days. Clintoonie Daddy needs to point his crooked little finger at Obonzo and Clintoonie. Sounds to me like he has always been a big lib.
I’ll chime in as a Gold Star family member.
I’ll assume good intentions on the part of the grieving dad but am a bit concerned as to his not wanting to meet with the President because it was a “stupid” mission. Perhaps that is the case, but as a former military man he should understand once the mission begins the dynamics change. Who knows, I wasn’t there for the planning or execution. I just hope he has no political motivations behind this. I will say that dealing with the media will lead him down the wrong path.
My stepson did not come back through Dover but made it to BAMC with 70 percent burns. My wife got to see him before he died but it has been a long and painful road. I know grief can case reactions that are not that the person would normally exhibit. But I would like to think that the memory of his cherished son would overcome his desire to lash out.
In our case, we carried on and later met with President Bush in what I will say was a healing moment for my wife and family. Several in our military family still feel pain and guilt as do many of my retired friends BUT never has his death been an alter to preach politics.
I pray for the soul of the brave warrior and his family and hope and pray that his father will not use it as springboard to disgrace his son’s memory, it will only lead to more pain and suffering for him and his family.
This man has lost a son and his grief must be just in-imaginable so anything he says must be excused, as far as I am concerned. I have a son his son’s age and the thought of his untimely death gives me the shakes.
That said, I would no matter what conduct myself post death in a manner in which I think he would agree with!
I would also add that Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families may ease the angst he feels. While they are not political in nature they aren’t a liberal bunch. Wonderful folks.
