Nearly 70 Percent of Californians Oppose Seceding from the Union
National Review Online ^ | March 29, 2017 | Austin Yack

California’s secession movement, CalExit, gained momentum immediately following Donald Trump’s victory in November, but it seems to have already fizzled out.

“Yes California,” the leading political action committee fighting for California’s independence from the union, capitalized on the shift in public opinion after Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton overwhelmingly carried the state on Election Day. Last January, for example, the campaign committee submitted a proposal to Secretary of State Alex Padilla, allowing it to collect the signatures necessary to create a ballot-box measure for the November 2018 election. The proposal, intended to repeal the provision in California’s Constitution that describes the state’s relationship to the union, must receive 585,407 signatures by July 25 in order to qualify for the ballot.

According to a Berkeley IGS Poll published on Monday, nearly 70 percent of Californians say they will oppose the CalExit provisions if it makes it onto the 2018 ballot.

According to the Berkeley IGS Poll, 53 percent of Californians would rather have their state leaders compromise with Trump than oppose him — especially “if it risks negative consequences and losses in federal funding.”

The will of Californians themselves in the matter DOES NOT MATTER:

Calif is 55 Electoral Votes of pure, unadulterated idiocy:

There is NO WAY the rest of liberal America is going to let go of that.

We’ll see Nancy Pelosi driving around San Fran with a crack commando team, openly turning out the lights of the Seperatists, door to door, before California is permitted to leave the union.

Majority support is a bonus for the Sacramento elite, not a necessity. That being said, I doubt the secession talk is serious, other than to rouse rabble.

Too bad.

Can all the other 49 states vote California out?

It’s a long way to November 2018. Right now, nearly a third of Californians support secession. By Election Day in 2018, with the heat of the midterms, support for secession may increase.

How about we kick western CA out of the Union? No sense waiting for them to do so first. Might as well include western Oregon while we are at it.

The other 30 percent are crim-aliens?

Why would illegal immigrants want to secede from U.S. federal welfare dollars?

Damn, well can’t we kick them out? It’s a lot to lose but it’s sort of a gangrene situation.
