Editorial: Trump taunts Stephen Curry with divisive bullying
San Jose Mercury-News ^ | September 26, 2017 | Editorial Board

It seems that President Trump just wants to pick fights. With NATO. The United Nations. North Korea. Mitch McConnell. John McCain.

And now Stephen Curry.

Yep, that’s right. The president of the United States is doing so well on foreign relations, health care, tax reform and his border wall that he apparently has enough time on his hands to take on the stars and owners of the NBA and the NFL.

And the Constitution. Through intimidation, Trump repeatedly tries to silence his critics and their free speech rights. The commander in chief has become the bully in chief, and there seems to be no end to his divisive schoolyard behavior.

Trump simplistically portrays the players’ kneeling during the anthem as disrespecting the flag. He fails to acknowledge that the right to conduct these peaceful protests is protected by our Constitution, and that they represent widespread underlying discontent.

People in positions of power, be they presidents or coaches, must be able to deal with criticism, Warriors coach Steve Kerr told Sports Illustrated.

“People are going to take shots at you and it’s incumbent upon you to absorb those shots. Maybe you respond diplomatically, but you maintain a level of respect and dignity. What you can’t do is just angrily lash out.”

That’s sage advice. The question is whether the president will learn the lesson. Probably not.

Trump is an America defending patriot. He doesn’t like America-haters trampling on our flag.

Yes, Trump is always the “divider” isn’t he?

Sorta like when Obama-Biden dropped the “Unity” slogan after November, 2008

Did the Mercury forget that?

Oh yeah, and then there will hilLIAR lecturing white people on how to treat others. Imagine that, either of the Clintons telling us how to act.

People in positions of power, be they presidents or coaches, must be able to deal with criticism, Warriors coach Steve Kerr told Sports Illustrated.

Steve Kerr is on the WRONG side of this argument. Maybe he represents the 2%.

Giving the finger to a captive audience who paid good money to escape the realities of political activism really do NOT want to be told that they are no good.

Yes, life is unfair. Justice is often lacking. But that has been going on for thousands of years.

Why would Kerr or anyone else think that showing hatred and disdain for the United States of America is a good thing?

"He fails to acknowledge that the right to conduct these peaceful protests is protected by our Constitution..."

Another example (of many) that shows how uneducated people passing as journalists really are.

It needs to be stated and REstated that the sub standard media is responsible for this whole fiasco in the first place. They are the ones who published and perpetuated the "Hands up don't shoot" lie that gave Kaepernick's BLM girlfriend the idea of using him to stage the first protests while Obama was in office.

Curry brought this on himself, with his childish, racist rant that he was too good to go to the WH.

It’s apparently fine with him and their kissazz white boy coaches to take our $$$, but ok for them too to disrespect us and what we stand for

Screw these hypocrites

Funny how liberals talk about how they want free speech, except when Conservative speakers want to speak at Berkeley, then they have to get 600,000 worth of protection because AntiFa and other left wing loons refuse to allow them to speak..free speech for ME and not for THEE
