Corey Lewandowski says the FBI should have WARNED Trump's team that Paul Manafort was under surveillance before he was hired to run the campaign

Former Trump campaign manager says FBI should have informed him that Manafort was under wiretaps and surveillance

FISA warrant reportedly stretched back to 2014, long before Trump became a candidate

Justice Department official says FBI, then run by James Comey, might have been trying to set up Trump by leaving his team in the dark

Manafort was indicted Monday on a laundry list of felonies including money laundering charges

Former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski slammed the FBI on Tuesday for failing to inform him last year that Paul Manafort was under federal surveillance before he was hired as the campaign's chairman.

Manafort, who faces a 12-count indictment including felony money laundering charges, was reportedly the subject of wiretaps as early as 2014, authorized by a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court (FISA) warrant.

Lewandowski said on 'Fox & Friends' that the FBI should have given the Trump campaign a heads-up since it didn't have the authority to do comprehensive background checks using government databases.

If it is true that Paul was under a FISA warrant prior to coming under the campaign, then I think the FBI should have probably notified the campaign and said, "Look, you've got a person here who's currently under surveillance; we want to raise that issue to you so you are aware of it".'

'Never was I contacted. Never was the president or the candidate contacted about any relationship that Paul Manafort might have had by a government authority.'

A Justice Department official told DailyMail.com on Monday evening that part of the motivation for keeping quiet may have been investigators' curiosity about whether Manafort's allegedly ill-gotten millions might have found their way into Trump's campaign.

'It could also be that the FBI, which was then an Obama agency, was looking to trap Trump somehow, or at least to sit back while he got mixed up with the worst of the worst,' the official said.

Of course they should have told Trump. This gets dirtier and dirtier every day.

Well it looks like that did not happen. Maybe they should have looked at the Clinton crime family foundation or the funds used to buy a fake report.

Much of the FBI (at least at the senior leadership level) is still, unfortunately, “Obama’s FBI” and “Mueller’s FBI”.

I understand what Lewandowski is saying here, but wouldn't it be highly irregular for the FBI to inform outside parties about an investigation when they're not supposed to making any public comments on them at all?

And wouldn't the FBI be running the risk of having someone in the Trump campaign tip off Manafort about the investigation (if he wasn't aware of it already)?

I don't think is as cut-and-dried as it may seem to be.

The FBI had no such obligation.

"FISA warrant reportedly stretched back to 2014, long before Trump became a candidate"

So how many other high end GOP/Operatives/Campaign Pro's were under FISA Warrant's and this was nothing but an Obama/Clinton Insurance Policy to snag any of our candidates, especially if they won.

This FISA chit, and that NSA puzzle palace in Utah has got to go....

If they were looking at Manafort back then, were they also looking at the Podestas? I wonder if Comey and Mueller were trying to set themselves up for the big bucks for when Hillary was elected and podesta was chief of staff. They would have the dirt.

They were hoping to bust and disqualify so that their candidate could win by default. No way they would let them know.

The FBI is a DNC entity; they don’t work for America.

WHY does *America* PAY the FBI..?

Shouldn’t the DNC alone pay the FBI..?

It does seem fair.

Just disband the FBI and create a new, better organization. They are SO BAD that they should no longer exist.

Probably impossible, but I can dream.

'It could also be that the FBI, which was then an Obama agency, was looking to trap Trump somehow, or at least to sit back while he got mixed up with the worst of the worst,' the official said.'

That seems the most likely explanation.

Lewandowski makes an excellent point and he is correct. The only reason for the FBI not to alert a Presidential campaign about something of this nature is hope for setting a trap. This is definitely within the scope of all things Obama.

If it’s true that he was under investigation for events not involving Trump, then why did it take a special investigator to to indict him? All this information had to be available to the FBI long ago. It was or the wouldn’t have been followed as intensely as he was.

This whole thing stinks to high heaven. It’s all a mind games at this point from what we’ve been told in the news. When things don’t make sense there are two options. One, the information is being withheld, or it’s a lie.

In this case, my gut says it’s both.
