The Patterson High School soccer player pulled off his hoodie to reveal a dark blue jersey bearing the name of Neymar, his favorite player, and joined his teammates on the sunny practice field.
While the jersey offers the 17-year-old a connection, if mostly in his dreams, to the Brazilian superstar, the sport itself provides the undocumented immigrant from Guatemala something more tangible: a respite from anxiety at a time of stepped-up immigration enforcement.
Maybe they can separate me from my mother. That makes me afraid, said the player, who asked to be identified only as Duglas because of his immigration status.
Fear of arrest or deportation among illegal immigrants is particularly evident in the areas soccer communities. The worlds most popular sport, it attracts players who grew up playing the game in other countries, and consider the sport part of their cultural heritage.
Weve noticed a trend of lots of anxiety or fear, said Casey Thomas, director of the Baltimore office of Soccer Without Borders.
The international nonprofit helps refugees and other immigrants acclimate to the United States through the sport. The Baltimore program has 350 participants boys and girls, most in grades 6 through 12.
The program includes refugees from Syria and other countries. Some spent extended periods in resettlement camps before making their way into the United States.

then we need to kick the illegal out and score.
In a Yemeni neighborhood near me, you can see young girls in burkas playing soccer. They look like ghosts floating across the field.

These people are illegal aliens who are flouting our laws. They should be rounded up and tossed out.
GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!
The will never assimilate. They will demand we change to suite their medieval tastes.
Indeed. The primitive culture they bring with them is not compatible with western civilization. It is a grave mistake for any western nation to import such people.
You are right. Certain cultures are not compatible -Sociology 101. It is harmful both for us to keep importing people from cultures incompatible with ours.

No, idiot, soccer does not erase sovereign national borders.
“””...pulled off his hoodie to reveal a dark blue jersey bearing the name of Neymar...”””
Uh, huh! Sure he wants to remain anonymous. Just go to a game and look for the jersey. Another attention whore.
Deport them all (illegals, not legal immigrants). Criminals should not profit from their crimes.
We should also deport hipster MLS fans as well.
In my town this is happening as well, but we have a very good illustration as to why. Our riverside parkland has two fairly recent things added: A turf soccer field for the foreigners’ kids, and a “bark park” for the Americans’ pets. These illegals are trafficked here and “sanctuaried” because half the town would be empty without them, and we could close most of our schools because 90% of the kids are foreign. Even the baseball fields, defended by the remaining Americans into conversion to soccer fields, are used by Indians to play cricket...
Red card, put them in the penalty box back where they came from.

Thanks. Stay safe, my friend.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Yep. I trust ICE has the address for this organization, most likely Soros-funded, that seeks to destroy my country.
