I’d even be happy if they were converted to Hindus or Buddhaists.
Hindus and Buddhists donot have an organized church with required participation at short intervals, like every Sunday. One can also be either and retain one’s Islamwithout too much conflict. The Moslems need to be forcibly converted to specifically Catholicism and probably after dhis pope is deposed or dies. It needs to be a religion that takes up all one’s worship time. Attendance at masses and processions would have to be mandatory and monitored. It would work if done that way. The “converts” would secretly maintain their own religio and occasionally backslide. Backsliders would be hung. Their children would be less attached to the old religion and their great grandchildren almost entirely detached. The Spanish royals did just that and ended the scourge until the last few years.
