President Trump has been willing to accept almost anything to close the deal on his giant tax cut bill before Christmas, including staying mum about a measure that would allow illegal immigrants to pocket the more generous child tax credit included in the package.
Illegal immigrants have been collecting the payoff from the “refundable” tax credit for years because of an IRS interpretation of how the rule was drafted. The Republican-controlled Congress this fall had a chance to correct that in the tax code overhaul that in the Senate version doubled the child tax credit to $2,000 and expanded eligibility.
The House bill increased the child tax credit to $1,600 and upped the income cutoff to receive it.
Both bills neglect to require that the worker have a Social Security number to claim the credit but require only that the qualifying child have a Social Security number.

The response by the government to such a return should be to deport the filer.

The whole idea of the EIC just aggravates me beyond belief. It is NOT the role of the federal government to underwrite local welfare. IMO, once you get to zero owed, there should be no refund. Just the word refund is a misnomer. How does one get a refund with nothing paid in?? I don’t want to hear anything about the “well they pay medicare and social security taxes” argument either....they also collect those “benefits” when they become eligible so it is just more of the something for nothing argument.

President Trump, if the illegals are getting refunds then do not sign the bill. Send it back to the Senate and tell these fools that their end is near. Republicans are jackasses beyond belief.
Their rationale is that they're not in the immigration business but the tax collecting one.
Legislation content does not go to paper without an author of the text. Demand to know who put it there? Do not accept things just slip thru unobserved.

President Trump, use that money and confiscated drug money to build the wall...the tax issue will pass without blackmailing you. Pelosi and Schumer are not interested in what the people need, they like the power of saying NO. To he** with them!
Is it so hard to say that any illegal alien is not eligible for tax credits under the code? Congress is the swamp.
It’s not a new thing for illegals to get these ‘refunds’. What no one is saying is that while Congress is raising the amount of the credit, they neglected to put IN to the bill that illegals can no longer receive them. It’s a benefit received by non-action, because the IRS says so, not something written into the bill.

Trump should announce publicly that he won’t sign a bill that gives tax credits to illegals. That puts Republican congressmen in the hot seat.
So—if an illegal immigrant refuses to obtain this taxpayer ID number and refuses to file their tax form they are violating the law?
Then what?
