Adams succeeded Washington, of course, but in a way that doesn’t count because that was before the 12th Amendment made the VP the political heir named by the presidential candidate.The only other example prior to Reagan was Andrew Jackson - who was succeeded by his sitting VP, Martin van Buren.
So if Trump were to be reelected and were to be succeeded by Pence (or whoever Trump had for VP of his second term), that alone would be a signal success. And as far as I can see, that will be necessary to save the Republic. Because nothing short of that can signify the delegitimatization of Obama/Hillary in the eyes of the low-information voter. And that has to be done before Hillary is indicted for Uranium One, or any other of her felonies.
