Jefferson had been bedridden for two or three weeks before his death.
His grandson Randolph said that Jefferson seemed determined to live long enough to see the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Ironically, the President at the time of his death was John Quincy Adams, the son of his old friend and once enemy John Adams.

Both Adams and Jefferson were fascinating men. Each had their own strengths and faults.

Agreed. Two very different men...we were lucky to have them both!
