China's President Xi Jinping may also travel to Singapore when Trump meets Kim: Report

A Japanese newspaper has raised the possibility of Chinese President Xi Jinping also travelling to Singapore when US President Donald Trump meets North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for an unprecedented summit on June 12.

The Mainichi Shimbun's Washington-based correspondent cited American diplomatic sources as saying there was a chance that Mr Xi may meet Mr Trump and Mr Kim in Singapore.

In the report published on Friday (May 11), the Mainichi quoted a senior international negotiator with the National Security Council as telling reporters that "there is a possibility" the leader of a third country may take part

Mr Trump announced via a tweet on Thursday (May 10) that his summit with Mr Kim will be held on June 12 in Singapore.

As of Friday morning, there were no news reports on North Korean media outlets of the date and venue of Mr Kim's meeting with Mr Trump, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported.

When asked at a regular press briefing on the Chinese president's travel plans, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry did not answer the question.

In response to a question posed by Japan's Kyodo news agency whether Mr Xi will be visiting Singapore before, after or on June 12, Mr Geng Shuang replied: "We hope that the meeting of the leaders of the DPRK and the United States will achieve positive results."

When asked by South Korea's Yonhap news agency on China's expectations of the high-stakes summit, Mr Geng said that "China welcomes the positive progress made by the leaders of the DPRK and the United States in preparing for the preparations for the summit".

Talk about raining on the parade. China deserves another 50 billion export to be slapped with tariffs.

What ever happened to the good old days when a dictator facing overthrow would take his millions and retire to an estate in the South of France or some other country? Baby Doc Duvalier, Idi Amin, Mengistu, Charles Taylor. Had that deal been offered to Khadaffy, Hussein and Assad, there may have been a lot less bloodshed.

Some don’t figure it out in time to get away. What they lack in intelligence, they make up for in brutality..

Not if he wants to leave his “face” intact.....Trump won’t be intimidated or strong-armed....and would likely tell China any interference would be considered their entry into the actual war.....

Does anybody know how Kim will get to Singapore? I have heard he doesn’t like to fly, and he may not have an airplane that can fly that far. And while he can take a train to China, I don’t think there are enough railroads in Southeast Asia to go by train from China to Singapore. The railroad connecting Thailand and Burma, for instance, the setting for “The Bridge on the River Kwai,” was bombed after it was finished, and only one third of its track can be used today.

If Xi and Trump are on the same page, Kim, if he resists, could be squashed like a bug!

Is there any doubt that NK gets its marching orders all from China? I’m still skeptical about NK’s intentions, and if they’ll truly honor any deal once it’s made. I think it’s a trick to get US troops off the peninsula so China gets its way...again. China is grabbing at empire.

I have always thought that China is Trump’s secret partner in this and they are pushing Kim to make an agreement. A prosperous and Nuclear Free North Korea is in China’s interest. I don’t think they are giving Kim and choice in these negotiations.

I suspect what Xi wants is N. Korea minus a few nuke and missiles. China wants it to remain pro-China. Xi wants Kim on a shorter leash. NK is theirs as far as they are concerned. I don’t think China wants full denuclearization, either. They don’t want any dramatic change. They do not want N. Korea to completely break the status quo.

To keep N. Korea in its orbit. This is not about nuclear-free prosperous N. Korea. What they fear is N. Korea veering off from China.Going neutral is also unacceptable. If they can make N. Korea as another province of China, then they would give more help.

What they would like to achieve is to make him ineffective.
