Apparently their mode of service—the searching on a word describing the entity—allows them to label a person or an institution with any pejorative tag they want without having to be held to account for it.

Take a close look at the image in the original post, specifically to the immediate right of the yellow arrow. It’s a Wikipedia article.

Google is innocent here. The worst you can say is that they relied on Wikipedia, and Wikipedia needs to tighten up its editing policy.

By the way, Wikipedia’s sloppiness is not just limited to conservatives!

Quick side story:
A couple of years ago, I was reading the Wikipedia article on Hillary Clinton. The article said that Hillary’s hobby was looking at pictures of female bums. And she would appreciate it if people would send pictures of female bums to her.

Some comedian had edited her entry, and got away with it (at least for a time). I sure wish I had taken a screen capture of that entry!

Apparently the google box pulled from the wiki page. You can view the history of the wiki and someone at 67.180.161.149 added the Nazi note in the last 24 hours then it was removed.

It’s not “fake news” - google did, indeed, have search results come back with the cagop marked as Nazis.

Also, if you RTFA you’ll see that the Wikipedia page didn’t have that listing.

Certainly Google isn’t necessarily to blame here - but there’d already be a response, an investigation and a promise to rework algorithms so this won’t happen again in the future if this had been a dem site.

As it is - I’m not even expecting an apology.

A search of the wiki page history will show the nazi comment added and deleted

Try that on a dem page - add communist, fascist or dictatorship to a dem page... watch google NOT update it.

Still doesn’t mean it’s fake news and google is defenseless here.

I think it all depends on how you define “fake news”. I see this as fake news because someone - the person who edited the Wikipedia entry - decided to deliberately spread false information.

Google and Wikipedia mindlessly referred to that faked article. I’d bet it was all done automatically by a computer program.

But yeah, you’re right in that Google and Wikipedia need to apologize for their sloppiness, and work to ensure that it that doesn’t happen again.

Note both The Nazism and your change were up for a minute but google ran with basins but NOT your change.

Note also Google’s ideology listings for Caldem are worded differently than the wiki page.

Does it correctly identify the democrats as socialist, the greens as communists, the libertarians as anarchists?

Didn’t think so.

That’s why I never use “Google”. I switched to “Duck Duck Go” and “Bing” a long time ago.

I use StartPage.

Have avoided googoo ever since I watched in mounting horror as they systematically and deliberately 'disappeared' over a half million hits on image searches for 'obama birth certificate' in mid-July 2007.
