It has been sliding toward the s#!thole for many years.
In my experience, having spent a lot of time around Y2K, the city was heavily populated with hippies, tie-dyed t-shirts, pony tails and looking for dope to smoke or sniff or inject. Pan handlers galore and the ever present moss on the sidewalks. The reports of violence don't surprise me. There is not a lot to do for unemployed jerks.
I will not return to “The Rose City,” if I can avoid it. The kids have moved East. I can't think of one positive thing to say about Portland.
