Voters on Tuesday head to the polls for California's pivotal primary, which could help determine whether Democrats will gain control of the House in the November midterms.
The Golden State is home to 10 of the most competitive House races in the nation, virtually all currently held by Republicans. The state is a key to the Democratic Partys plan to net the 23 seats it needs to flip the House majority in November.
But uncertainty abounds thanks to the state's "jungle primary" system, where the top two vote-getters advance to the general election regardless of party affiliation.
The unusual dynamic threatens to keep the Democrats shut out of key House battles, eliminating any chance of competing in top races. It could also keep Republicans off the ballot in the governors race, an outcome that could deal a blow to GOP turnout in November.
The polls close at 11 p.m. EDT. Follow below as The Hill provide live updates and analysis throughout the day.

phrophetic times!
Shall JOSH NEWMAN be recalled (removed) from the Office of State Senate District 29?
Yes 27,341 62.4%
No 16,481 37.6%
Also: CLARE MALONE1:02 AM
A little more news out of California, though not from one of the big races: Judge Aaron Persky, who gave a lenient sentence of six months in jail to a Stanford swimmer who raped an unconscious woman, has been recalled from office.
Demographics will not work in a statewide election in CA in favor of Cox.
But his victory to be in the General Election will help GOP district
House members greatly.
The fact that he even made it to the general is a victory.
That judge so deserved it.
Yes!!!!
I think Cox has a shot, but Im not so sure Trump should go to California.
He can support Cox from afar(like hes been doing).

I think President Trump should go instead to PA to campaign for GOP House members...
President should not go to CA for Cox...
I notice when combining Cox & Allen voters, it exceeds Newsome Grusome voters.

Do not forget about people who voted for John Chiang and Antonio V. They are not likely to support Cox in November...They will all support Newsom...
Sorry. Cox is not going to win CA.
But as another wise Freeper mentioned, his place on the ticket
could help save the House.
And for that, we should be grateful Cox has made it to the General
Election.

I agree that Newsom will probably win...
But, I am glad that Cox ended up as number 2...
I planned to skip the governor section in November if I had to choose from two Dems...Now I will not skip that section...
It appears that a State Senate recall of a Democrat who voted to increase the gas tax has been successful.

Orange County Congressman Dana Rohrabacher will be in the November election. Number two is Keirstead(D), who has 17.3%.
However, Baugh(R) is number three. He has 16.7%. Votes are still being counted...Baugh could end up as number two eventually.
In District 39, Kim(R) and Cisneros(D) will be on the November ballot...
Yup. Newsom is the godfather of same sex marriage. Lots of minority voters may stay home because of that issue.

I don’t think CA Dems paid any price for supporting gay marriage...
I am sure there are many religious Latinos and blacks who do not like gay marriage. However, they will still vote for Newsom...All Newsom has to do is mention that Cox is endorsed by President Trump...Many of those religious voters would say, “I don’t like the fact that Newsom supports gay marriage. But, I really dislike Trump.”
No, she just made it on the November ballot but if Democrat de Leon makes it to the #2 spot , but she wins... she might not make it through 4 years ... is what some hope. She is 85 next year.
My prediction is an R Governor as a veto on the Insane State Lawmakers.
I do not know who Newsom or Cox is but I was in LA at drive time this week and when John and Ken start in on the problems of their city/state, the populace will get mighty pissed off. Remember Gray Davis? Never say never.
I agree with you...100%...God with his unending wisdom & guidance gave us POTUS, Donald J. Trump when America, the nation, and Americans needed him most. John Cox has a great chance to defeat that low life Democrat dirt bag Gavin Newsome and become the next governor of California.
As for “our” Trumpie, he ranks right up there with Washington, Lincoln & Reagan!!!
California, Dreaming, California Girls, The Beach Boys, Hot Racing, Aerospace Industry, Space Industry, etc. will live once again in California...not the Gavin Newsome, MS-13 murder gangs, druggies and homeless of San Francisco/Los Angeles and his beloved Illegals killing innocent Americans. The Democrat Party must be politically destroyed in California and through our great country.
Go John Cox, Go POTUS, Donald J. Trump, MAGA....Trumpie you need a few rallies in the Golden state!!!
San Fran has banned flavored tobacco AND absurdly, fruity flavored e-cig liquid.
Why not just ban tobacco, period?
Menthols are included in the ban, just go ahead and try that in Oakland, San Fran is lucky it doesn’t have many Blacks.
Is she able to walk? Why run again?
She is 85 on 22nd. Neither Dem got party endorsements. Best as I heard there are no health issues. How well will younger Democrats fight to oust Feinstein?
I guess she can walk.
“ Why run again?” Gives meaning to her life?
What? Has she retired?
At her current age, a six year term is longer than her life expectancy, so the next governor of California will have the opportunity to appoint Feinstein's replacement.
Lets hope that you are correct.
This water bill is the thrust of the Movie Chinatown again in new liberal clothes.
We save water up north to send it down south.
