I agree with your take on it.

It grated me that they didn’t muster an alternative candidate during the primary.

I would urge folks to vote for him vs losing a Senate seat, but there’s no real fire in my belly for it.

I too had hoped for a primary candidate who was a TRUMPER, against Cruz.

I suspect that some shall hold their noses and vote for him, to keep Beto out. But yes, like you, without any enthusiasm at all and 1/2 heartedly. Other GOP candidate would have brought far more voters out. Now, Teddykins will be lucky to squeak this race out with a pathetic win.
