Californians could vote to end daylight saving time under bill sent to governor

Californians would be asked in a November ballot measure whether to end the biannual practice of moving their clocks ahead and back to comply with the Daylight Saving Time Act, under a bill the Assembly approved Thursday and sent to Gov. Jerry Brown for consideration.

“This bill creates a pathway for California to stay on daylight saving time year-round,” Assemblyman Kansen Chu (D-San Jose) told his colleagues before they voted 63-4 to approve his bill.

"AB 807 is aimed to dramatically improve public health,” Chu said. “Studies have shown that when we switch our clocks, that action alone increases the chances for heart attacks, workplace injuries, crime and traffic accidents.”

California gets on correct.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

This is probably the only sane thing that California has done in decades. I support the idea of the entire country adopting Daylight Saving time all year and adopting it as the National Standard time.

But if this happens, then California is out of step with the rest of the country.

One of the few things I agree with coming from California...

Not so. Arizona has been this way for a long time.

It is more important and urgent that we vote in a new governor.

And as much as I hate the time change of having shorter days, what other way will we have to indicate that it’s winter?

I don’t think Hawaii observes daylight savings, but that’s a little different being several time zones away to start with.

This is so stupid. Why not set the clock ahead a day, a month, a year? Think of the health benefits.

Finally got something right going for them. I hate DST esp. when some states use it and some don’t.

Not to be a grammar Nazi, but does anyone with an education review copy anymore. Writers seem to no longer know how to use the words biannual and semiannual correctly.

Pretty sure AZ observes standard time, not daylight savings time.

Yeah, but the sun will be in the wrong place in the sky when the clock says 12 noon.

Celestial mechanics shall change not at all.

Muy estúpido, campesino.

What’s wrong with standard time? It’s at least based (at least on the meridian the zone is based on) where the sun actually is in the sky?
