Flake: I won't oppose Trump's Supreme Court pick over tariffs
The Hill ^ | 06/28/2018 | Aris Folley

"There are lots of folks out there who assume because I've not been in line with lots of the president's policies, and certainly haven't condoned his behavior, that I should oppose everything, every one of the president's nominees or whatever. I've never taken that position," Flake told The Arizona Republic in an interview published Thursday.

So Flake won't go Flakey on us.

Collins and Murkowski could be problems though because of abortion.

I hope this means that he has seen some writing on the wall re the midterms (for the party, not himself).

Good, but at the first sign he’s holding things up, boot him from the committee and put someone else in.

Flake: I won't oppose Trump's Supreme Court pick over tariffs

He'll find some other reason.

I don’t know how this man fooled the Arizonans into voting for him.

The valid reason to oppose a Supreme Court justice nominee (if opposition is necessary) is because you believe he will not uphold the constitution, not because of Trump’s tariffs which is an entirely separate issue.

The man looks very spiteful to me. I hope the folks of Arizona learn from this experience.

Collins and Murkowski would be gambling their effectiveness as senators. This is a new world, and I would expect party discipline imposed in ways not seen for decades. Mitch McConnell may be a squish, but he can squished by President Trump and Sen. Grassley just as well.

Just like Flake, who’s a lame duck, is backing off opposition to Trump picks, even more so will Collins and Murkowski back off if given the opportunity.

Flake: “I won’t oppose president’s pick over tariffs. I will oppose the president’s pick simply because I am an a****le.”

Flake recognizes that Trump providing his list of potential nominees to the Supreme Court likely clinched him the election and fighting that will doom any political power he may have left.

While Collins and Murkowski could be problems, at least Manchin is feeling the heat and will not be seen as anti-Trump on the nomination. If one of the other 9 red state Senators doesn’t come through for Trump - the D’s can kiss their wish for even keeping the seats they have out the window and it will be a red wave - potentially to a 60 vote majority.

For me, that means this has been in the works. Kennedy’s stepping down is a timed event.

They already know who they are going to nominate, they are already vetted, and its going to a vote so fast it will make the left’s head spin.

Then RBG will go. If you believe the chatter, another will go for ‘health reasons’.

Blowback for Scalia’s murder I think.

I am pretty confident that Justice Thomas will announce his retirement also. He has been a solid Justice and deserves to enjoy the rest of his days. It is quite possible that Trump will have 3 more picks including Kennedy’s seat.

Assuming this, the complexion of SCOTUS will be changed for decades. It is impossible to overstate how consequential this will be.

Don’t trust anything the bitter loser Saint Jeffy says—he goes out of his way to stab DJT in the back every single day. He LOVES the attention from the fake news media.

After what he just said, Saint Jeffy will find some “principled”(BARF) reason why he won’t support the nominee. The principle he actually lives by is always having his head inserted up Juan McCain’s @ss.

I’m not too worried about Collins or Murkowski. They both voted for the nuclear option and both voted for Gorsuch. Collins, at least, also took the floor to speak in favor of Gorsuch.

We just need a nominee who Manchin and one or two other red-state Democrats will vote for to give us a buffer, and confirmation will probably be uneventful. That shouldn’t be hard.
