European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Friday that he will travel Washington in July to meet with President Trump amid an escalating trade war between the U.S. and Europe.
Juncker said that Europe stands committed to "free and fair, multilateral based trade," and announced that he would meet with the U.S. president before the end of July, according to a European Commission spokeswoman.
That meeting will not take place before July 24, he said. A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond to The Hill's request for comment.

Somewhere in the background, there’s some other Trump moments waiting to be ‘let out of the box’. And Junker has this figured out.
For example, in ten days....there’s a NATO meeting. I kinda expect Trump to shock folks by announcing the bulk of US troops leaving Europe in three years.
The trade battle? I think Trump will go to the next stage....to punish Germany yet again, but no one else in Europe. And the EU will react with some anti-US tariff, which will only lead to another Trump tariff in August, which will only be aimed at Germany.
In a way, he’s helping to level the playing field of Europe by dissolving German business numbers.

NATO, Pay the minimum not 4 percent of USA GDP, and move the German bases to Poland they have offered to pay the moving expenses and its closer to Ukraine and Russia. Move bases out of Turkey and into Greece or Arabia. Close most other EU bases, old WWII bases no longer relevant after cold war, can’t afford them.

looks that way. supposed commitment to “free and fair” trade but he can forget the “multilateral” part ... EU is supposedly a single entity, so bilateral agreement takes care of the whole deal between EU and US, no need for anyone else at that table ...

The only reason Juncker is coming is to try to maintain the fiction of EU autonomy. Make no mistake, he is coming to negotiate on behalf of the German auto industry and will be prepared to throw the rest of the EU under the bus to protect it. He is Merkel’s toadie, nothing more.
