NATO bends to Trump's will, says his message is 'having an impact'
Washington Examiner ^ | July 11, 2018 | Pete Kasperowicz

NATO's secretary general agreed on Wednesday that President Trump's call for other members to boost their defense spending under the military alliance is having an effect, and promised that other NATO members would soon be chipping in more.

Trump was in Belgium Wednesday to keep up his complaint that other NATO members are "not paying what they should," and said it's an "unfair burden" to the U.S.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg agreed.

"We all agree that we have to do more," he said in a joint appearance with Trump. "I agree with you that we have to do make sure that our allies are investing more. And last year was the biggest increase in defense spending across Europe and Canada in that generation."

"Why was that last year?" Trump asked.

"It's also because of your leadership, because of your carried message," Stoltenberg said.

"They won't write that, but that's OK," Trump replied, referring to members of the press.

"No, I have said it before, but the thing is that it really has," Stoltenberg said. "And your message is having an impact, and we are going to build on that to make sure that we have further increases."

The NATO commander should send a bill to each nation who is not
paying their fair share. Then see who pays and who doesn’t.
And do it on a yearly basis.

...Obama would have been apologizing for the US...

Kissing rings and bowing from the waist until he collapsed.
He would also make it a point to stand in the most inconspicuous place possible, keeping his eyes to the floor doing his best Casper Milqtoast.

Yes, Virgina, there is a Santa Claus and, yes, there is most certainly a God, Almighty, who has watched over his great experiment, The United States of America. Our Lord, God, Almighty, has given us, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan and now. most importantly, Donald J. Trump as our leading Presidents when violent storm clouds flowed above our beloved nation. Praise be our Lord, God Almighty!!!

Start pulling troops and closing bases. If Europe won’t take measures to provide for the preservation of it’s cultures and people, we don’t need to be there. All our presence serves to do is enable them to fund their ever expanding welfare states to our detriment.

I watched ABC news last night.

Their sly narrative is they thought it odd Trump would have such harsh comments to our NATO friends and yet speak kindly of Putin.

The "T" on NATO is TREATY. Part of that treaty is that member states commit to spending a fixed proportion of their GDP on mutual defense. Nobody on NATO except the USA honors that. When Trump tells them that he expects them to honor their treaty commitments, fainting couches and smelling salts are immediately reserved all across Washington.

Yet when he pulls out of "deals" like the Iran one or the Paris Climate one, neither of which was a ratified treaty, they also need the fainting couches and smelling salts because nations must honor their commitments, dang it! even informal ones that could have never been ratified as treaties because they are really bad for the USA!

Germany pays the least even though they are one of the richest countries and benefits the most.

I hope Trump keeps up pressure on Herr Merkel.

You have raised an issue that is being discussed but unclear.

Are the uncontributed funds in question direct contributions to NATO or individual nations defense budgets calculated as a percent of the specific nations GDP.

I have come to believe that it is the latter. That leaves open the question about sources and amounts for the administrative NATO budget.

doesn’t take much for President Trump to get the EU on the defensive ... they’ve shifted from attacking him about meaningless shite like opting out of the Paris climate nonsense to begging him about important shite like staying opted in to NATA ...

I was driving earlier and Glenn Beck came on. He had Jonah Goldberg on to talk about Jonah’s recent book. Glenn asked Jonah about Trump’s message today to NATO. The P-word Jonah whined about how the president could have said things differently and better. lol. Because speaking diplomatically works so well.

Let’s start with Germany. I’m beginning to really hate them. Switch our bases over to Poland.
