There’s a reason restaurants everywhere are failing: Red Hen Syndrome
The Spectator ^ | 07/22/2018 | Rod Liddle

Posted on 07/22/2018 6:15:31 PM PDT by MaxistheBest

It may be that we’ve had all we can take, especially when these outlets are suffused with such self-importance. --------------------------------------------------------

The Red Hen is where the White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, took her family for a bite to eat, and from which she was evicted when the homosexual staff recognised who she was. Her rude defenestration was supported by the restaurant’s owner, citing Donald Trump’s reluctance to allow transgender people to serve in the US military. It is, clearly, a liberals-only restaurant. They should write that on the front door, so that everything is clear, but as a sop maybe have a water fountain out front labelled ‘for conservatives’.

--------------------------------------------------------

But support for the horrible Red Hen was outweighed by about five to one by enraged conservatives, one of whom advised immigrants that the restaurant was offering free meals to illegal aliens and all they had to do was ring the number, which they quoted in full. My favourite, though, came from a local bloke who said that people in the area were disgusted with the Red Hen and that the owner was ‘a New York transplant’ and related to Meryl Streep. Enough said!

--------------------------------------------------------

Cooking is not terribly difficult. Nor is it an art. It is at best what Orwell referred to as a ‘half art’, like photography. We have undoubtedly benefited from the increased prestige conferred upon people who can put stuff in a frying pan and stir it quite adeptly, these past 40 years. But latterly it has also bred within the restaurateurs a distance from and even a contempt towards the people they are serving. So that they are now agreed that the feedback they receive from their customers is utterly worthless: they know what they are doing and nobody can tell them otherwise.

Damn, I’ve been in Ft. Pierce, since 2004 and never heard of Lorenzo’s. But, then again, I spent most of my time at the marina.

Speaking of Archie’s, got food poisoning back in 2010. Never again, will I eat there.

I think 12A Buoy has the best food in Ft. Pierce.

Now if I only find a good Chinese place in the area, I would be a Happy Camper.

When I was sitting in the theater, I knew that window was there for a reason, before it happened. Brutal, yet humorous.

I long ago learned that the more words used to describe the food item on the menu, then the smaller the food portion AND the more expensive it will be.

The author gets 45 free points for using “Defenestration” in a sentence. It means to throw someone out through a window. Who knew we needed a word just for that?

A favored practice, for his enemies, of Vladimir Putin.

Now that is hysterical! When I first saw the word, I thought, well whatever. But now it makes sense. The French word for window is fenetre, or something like that.

Thanks for the good belly laugh!

in Turkey they are upfront about sanitation - all the food is displayed in glass cases for the customers to chose from - flies and maggots are not uncommon among the unrefrigerated food displays - just how long has that meat been laying there? Not long enough to have maggots like in the meat display next to it.

Good article but this statement is not true.

“Defenestration “ comes from the French, “fenetre “ or window. During the reign of terror the Jacobins literally threw people from windows killing them.

We live in a area where many restaurants including Cracker Barrel, Ruby Tuesday, IHOP, Denny’s and every fast food chain is within walking distance of less than 10 minutes.

We usually have friends with us as well, so it is a pleasant outing and get away from house cleaning routine.

I think it was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. This from a hospital

Members of my family have been in several hospitals over the years. The ones with the best food are the ones where the doctors have to eat in the cafeteria, because there are no good eateries nearby.

Try cooking bacon in the oven. It avoids super-heating the bacon in spots in a pan which is what produces carcinogens in treated meats which is what bacon is.

That's what my wife does. Put bacon on baking rack over cookie tray. The bacon cooks evenly, and the fat collects in the tray.

I’ve never been a big fan of eating out. Doesn’t matter if a 4 star, restaurant, gas station bbq or State Fair.

Maybe I can’t get past the memory of nearly spray painting the inside of an airplane with explosive diarrhea because of bad New Orleans oysters..??..

Yes there are. Figure out what you are going to do with it and pick the model which best suits your needs. We kept upgrading the model and sending the old version off to college with our kids.
