0.5 Megawatts of electricity per day Wrong units. I believe that they mean 0.5 MW-HR, which would make this a 500/24 Megawatt plant, or roughly a 20 kW plant averaged over 24 Hours. Or for $2,350 on eBay

The copper wire will be ripped out and sold at the junkyard by the end of the month.

So maybe $60 or less of power per day when all is said and done At a cost $160,000,000, the plant will pay for itself in just 7,000 years.

How do they get the plant to produce potable water at night? Water can be pumped into storage tanks for night use.

I calculate 3000 kWh a day, which would require one of these:

The cost of the European guards to protect the panels from destruction will be far more than the cost of the water it produces. But the feel goodism to the liberal elites who spent other people’s money to construct this boondoggle is priceless.
If they cut corners and pay Muslim guards, it will not last a year.
But the liberals will have moved on to another worthless gesture by then...

The claim was 0.5 MW per day, which is clearly meaningless. If one generously interpreted that to mean an average of 500 kW averaged over 24 hours, then you might need something like that. A better guess might be 500 kW peak. Who knows?
Forget about it, Jake. Its journalism.
To: Lonesome in Massachussets
Yes, it is meaningless. I assumed it was 0.5MW nameplate and applied a capacity factor of 25%, but that’s nothing but a guess. That leads to 100 kW but the picture is a 125 kW generator.

sorry, no, 500/4 is 125. But the 25% is also somewhat of a guess.

The Palis will ruin it in 5 years, I’ll bet.
Any takers?

This can make a fascinating retrospect. Certainly puts Josep Borrell’s badmouthing of Israel into context.
