Do we have any DC area Ham/Freepers out there that might know of local activities?

Someone posted on a (letter 17) long thread a few days ago that:

The Ham license that Nellie Ohr restricts to HF low power that is essentially line of sight short distace comms

However

It gives access to HF repeater stations that are networked world wide.

I think you mean VHF. VHF still can go over the horizon. Back in the day when people had antenneas, we could pick up TV stations several hundred miles away when radio wave propagations conditions were good.
