A GoFundMe page to cover the legal expenses for former Trump attorney Michael Cohen was launched on Wednesday with a goal of raising $500,000.
Lanny Davis, Cohen's lawyer, is listed as the administrator of the page, titled the "Michael Cohen Truth Fund." The page had racked up more than $20,000 in donations as of 9:20 a.m. Wednesday.
"Michael decided to put his family and his country first. Now Michael needs your financial help to pay his legal fees," the page description states.
The donations will help Cohen "as he goes forward on his journey to tell the truth about Donald Trump," the page states.
Cohen on Tuesday pleaded guilty to bank fraud, tax fraud and campaign finance law violations in the Southern District of New York.
While reviewing the charges, Cohen told the judge that he made two six-figure payments to women at the direction of a candidate for federal office, essentially implicating the president.
Cohen did not refer to Trump by name during the proceedings, but his comments match the accounts of payments to adult-film star Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal. Both women have said they were paid to remain quiet about alleged affairs with the president.
Prosecutors additionally alleged Cohen failed to disclose $4.1 million in reported income, which allowed him to obtain various loans to which he would otherwise have not have been able to access.
Cohen was released on $500,000 bond. He is due back in court for sentencing on Dec. 12.
Davis has said in the aftermath of Cohen's plea that his client is not hoping for, nor would he accept a pardon from Trump. Davis said Cohen would also be willing to share what he knows with special counsel Robert Mueller.
Trump on Wednesday morning offered his first public comments on Cohen's plea, recommending against retaining the services of his long-time personal fixer.
"If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you dont retain the services of Michael Cohen!" Trump tweeted.
Now that he allegedly 'turned on Trump' will Cohen become another hero of the left, like Comey, McCabe, and Peter Strzok and how much money will they give him?
Talk about your money line. Let the gullible leftist bucks flow!
He has enough money parked back to survive. Don’t need my bucks.
Didn’t he just buy a $6 Million apartment?
Don’t they have everything already? They already have all his paperwork.
Do you suppose that even some liberals won’t be sympathetic to Lanny Davis setting up a fund for Cohen to pay Lanny Davis?
Poor rich guy...i feel his pain?
Somebody needs to investigate gofundme Now! It looks to me like it is turning out to be a huge democrat money laundering operation. After I heard on Hannity the pittance that was raised for Gen Flynn over the course of almost 2 years compared to Strzok, McCabe, et al in a matter of days youve got to have the IQ of a shoe to not recognize something smells!
Sucker welfare. Liberal suckers paying for this POS's welfare.
This is hilarious. I have little doubt he’ll get a LOT of money and I also have little doubt he has a scheme to keep most of it. Maybe expensive billable hours on his own behalf...
Hell, I think I’ll launch me a “GoFundMe”...
I know...I’ll call it the “EPF”...The Empty Pocket Fund....
Soros will take care of this.
I think you are on to something there.
It’s how Cohen will get the payoff from Hillary
Unreal. Just make a check out to the Clinton Foundation. Why would Cohen have Davis ass his attorney?
I’ll ask the North Koreans to print him up some Confederate money.
Are you kidding? Leftist are only generous with other peoples money. You really believe thousands of benevolent leftists are donating $5 or $10 bucks a pop for these guys?
The “GoFundMe” ploy worked for Peter Strzok, didn’t it.
How’s that working out for him, anyway?
The go fund me campaigns could be methods of laundering and delivering money to people that are owed the payment for “services”, or it could just be my tin foil hat is on to tight.
I would check for money laundering to the DNC.
