Michael Cohen's attorney on Wednesday was booed by a live studio audience on Megyn Kelly's NBC program after asking viewers to fund his client's GoFundMe page.
The moment on "Megyn Kelly Today" comes one day after Cohen, the president's former attorney, pleaded guilty to charges of bank fraud, tax fraud and campaign finance law violations.
"Could I just take one opportunity to remind everyone that Michael Cohen has suffered a tragic and difficult experience with his family?" Cohen attorney Lanny Davis said during a satellite interview with Kelly. "Hes without resources and weve set up a website called michaelcohentruth.com that were hoping that he will get some help from the American people so that he can continue to tell the truth?"
The comments drew jeers from the live audience with Kelly taking a moment to note how much had been raised by the website so far.
"The audience, I dont know if they are ready to donate, Lanny," Kelly noted after the comment drew jeers from the audience. "We did check before we went on air. Its got $70,000 in it so far. Listen, we appreciate you coming on."
Davis, who is also an opinion contributor for The Hill, shot back at the audience reaction before Kelly corrected that number as $20,000.
"I would say the reaction of your audience may be they are not as interested in getting the truth out about Donald Trump as many other people in the country," Davis shot back. "Approximately 60 percent of the country would not have the reaction of your audience."
By the way, I overstated, its $20,000, its not $70,000," Kelly noted. "Hope springs eternal, I guess. Lanny, all the best to you."
As of about midday Wednesday, Cohen had raised more than $40,000 on his GoFundMe page called "The Michael Cohen Truth Fund." The goal is to raise $500,000.
"Michael decided to put his family and his country first," reads the page. "Now Michael needs your financial help to pay his legal fees."
"The Michael Cohen Truth Fund is a transparent trust account, with all donations going to help Michael Cohen and his family as he goes forward on his journey to tell the truth about Donald Trump," it adds.
Cohen is not the first notable figure to start a GoFundMe to help with legal costs and income loss.
Former FBI agent Peter Strzok created a GoFundMe page on Aug. 13 after being fired from the bureau for anti-Trump texts. He has raised more than $442,000 with a goal of $500,000.
Even if the audience HATES Trump they still won’t like Cohen.
How many of the contributors were from Russia or Iran?
Cohen jeered, stroczk cheered. Anything wrong with this picture?
[[shot back. “Approximately 60 percent of the country would not have the reaction of your audience.” ]]
Bahahahahaha- The audience very likely hates trump- and are likely liberals for the most part- (I don’t know many republicans who watch NBC)
NBC Viewers don’t represent the liberal view? Bahahahahaha!
It’s like Spock and McCoy in a televised gladiator fight.
Here's an interesting angle to this story (and I hope a lawyer on this site will correct me if I'm wrong): If Cohen was actually being investigated for anything related to the 2016 election campaign, I believe Trump's campaign funds could have been used to pay his legal fees. The fact that he was on his own in this case is all you need to know. In fact, I would not be surprised if he agreed to the "illegal campaign contribution" plea deal as a way to try to recover some of his legal fees.
Lanny Davis is a Clinton hanger on, who has made a career out of being an apologist for the Clintons.
Isn’t it a small world, to think that Lanny Davis is Cohen’s attorney?????
Just last year these same leftists wanted Cohen dead, now they call him a hero LOL and they are BEGGING for money really?? is this satire, he just purchased a 6 million dollar home in New York City, gee this poor fellow couldn’t rent a nice apartment he needed 6 mil to keep his ass comfy
Word hasn’t yet trickled down to the Leftist foot soldiers that Cohen is now to be loved, not hated.
“”Approximately 60 percent of the country would not have the reaction of your audience.””
Lanny - is that the same % who thought Hillary was going to win the election? These jerks are expert at pulling % figures out of their - ahem - hats! They make them up so why don’t they just say 99.99% of the people in the country ?????? Every stinking one of them throw out the figures for the same talking point and they’re all different! MY - how clever!

I’m shocked. Shocked to find out that Megyn Kelly still has a TV show.
Lanny is competing with Susan Rice to see how many shows he can lie on in one day.
Go Fund Me looks like a money laundering site to me.
Took lessons from the Clintons when they were raising money to pay all their legal fees. Lanny Davis knows about that!
I’m going to charge my client a whole boatload of money and I want you to help him pay my bill. Yep - right away, sir!
I agree. It’s an easy way to pay off bribes...oops, I mean “donations”
Cohen just bought a 6.7 Million condo in New York
and the scumbag is begging for $$$$
SUCKERS!
Donald Trumps former personal lawyer financed the purchase with a mortgage from the developers, according to public records Michael Cohen, Donald Trumps former personal lawyer who is under federal investigation, bought a $6.7 million apartment in April in a new Manhattan skyscraper that is being developed by two of Mr. Trumps longtime friends, according to people familiar with the transaction.
