Why the f is it even a state?
That’s my question. I heard (never verified) that it was because Alaska was Republican and the deal was to let Hawaii in to neutralize the effect on the Senate.
There is a latent independence streak in Hawaii that I think we should ignite. Then let them return to their old Monarchy. Then, move our bases to Midway.
Damned if I know; if anything it should just be a “PROTECTORATE” like Puerto Rico.
