Despite the guilty plea he entered Aug. 21 to charges of campaign finance law violations, it appears that President Trumps former lawyer, Michael Cohen, did not actually violate the Federal Election Campaign Act.
It is hard to continue to have faith in the objectivity of the Justice Department in the face of what seems like politically driven prosecution decisions to throw the book at Cohen and implicate President Trump in allegedly illegal conduct while ignoring clear lawbreaking by the Clinton campaign.
Many election law experts, including former commissioners on the Federal Election Commission (FEC), say his conduct, however sleazy, didnt violate the law.
Im one of those former commissioners and Im also a former Justice Department attorney. Based on my experience serving in government and now as a senior legal fellow at the Heritage Foundation, it appears to me that Cohen was innocent of the campaign finance law violations.
The law Cohen pleaded guilty to violating bans campaign contributions by banks, corporations and labor unions.
...snip...
Now lets turn to the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. In August 2015, the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) entered into a memorandum of understanding that essentially handed over the operation of the DNC to the Clinton campaign.
This gave the Clinton campaign control over the finances, activities and expenditures of the DNC, including more than $84 million raised by the DNC and state Democratic parties.
Cleta Mitchell, one of the foremost campaign finance lawyers in Washington, calls this a massive scheme to completely evade the legal contribution limits to the Clinton campaign and the greatest campaign-finance scandal in history.

Let’s say you go to your local hardware store and buy some rope. You then then take the rope home and use it to strangle your wife. You are then charged with shoplifting the rope (which you did not do) and murdering your wife (which you did do). The prosecutors then offer to let you plead guilty to shoplifting and in exchange they will drop the charges for murder.
That is basically what happened here. Cohen was guilty of many crimes that had nothing to do with Trump, so the prosecutors let him plead guilty to a minor charge that he did not commit, in exchange for dropping charges for more serious crimes that he did commit.
HOW DOES TRUMP KNOW THE CNN/BERNSTEIN/LANNY STORY IS BOGUS? READ ON.
ACT ONE---Bernstein cited Lanny Davis as an anonymous source, writing that L/D "declined to comment" for the story.
ACT TWO--Lanny Davis had, indeed, admitted that he was CNN's source WRT "Cohen knowing" Trump had advance
knowledge of the infamous Trump Tower meeting with Russians and Trump Jr.
ACT THREE--Lanny ran to CNN and Bernstein with the blockbuster----every one of the lowlifes thinking they were
about to cash-in bigtime.
ACT FOUR The "ball-breaking reporter" Bernstein and the obedient CNN fast-forwarded what they thought was a "get-Trump" bombshell.
DENOUEMENT---The dumb*** media-types now find they've been trolled by Trump.
The real bombshell is that apparently Trump had Cohen feeding Lanny info.
(hat tip Alberta's Child).
==================================
Now Lanny's been forced to admit his error on TV----and Bernstein's been caught with his pants down on CNN.
CNN went incommunicado. Bernstein? He's over at the Watergate having a stiff drink.

Beautiful play, Donald....beautiful.
Rosenstein and possibly Sessions had to give this a go ahead considering it implicates the President. Dershowitz mentioned this is why he was against the unindicted co-conspirator with Nixon. From what I gather the President has no recourse since there will be no trial. Im no lawyer but this seems twisted as all and genuinely against the Constitution.
This is all so frustrating! The guilty are going unpunished, and people associated with Trump are being railroaded and nothing is being done to stop it!
To think we are here at this point and all we and he did was vote and win a Presidency. Its been obvious there is no respect for our President whether it be his DOJ/FBI or an off the record remark to Bloomberg. I had to laugh reading the Papadapoulis indictment. He being the actual subject who was the start of all of this was interviewed for first time seven days after inauguration and they had done no counter-intel on the mystery Professor to the point they blame Papadapoulis for his escape....all so pathetic.
BTTT
They ALL committed Perjury. Fraud upon the Court and deserve to be Criminally Charged and Disbarred
More like an INjustice Department.
Hellary Clinton’s Yale classmate and consigliere for the Clinton Crime Family was/is Michael Cohen’s lawyer. This fraud convinced Cohen to plead guilty to two counts of a non existent crime and attempt to “implicate” the President in a Clintonesque legal ploy.
The chairman of the FEC didn’t refer charges.
Pure political persecution.
re: your post 3:
That’s why I love Trump. The guy is a master troll.
Well Mueller’s next move has been telegraphed. Nothing against the opposition will be addressed until Trump introduces it as his defense. That’s the only way this can go down. Nobody but Fox will touch this angle. They call Heritage “extreme right” in mainstream circles.
Excellent analogy. The forced Cohen plea to guilty to a non-crime was done expressly to target Trump.
Fake Law
PFL
Am I the only one that caught this and got a laugh out of it?
“(Pecker, the head) of the company that publishes the National Enquirer.........”
And, lets not forget, a "token" prison sentence of something like 43 to 46 months. Cohen was always a sleazy hustler, useful to Trump in the nasty world of New York business/labor/politics, but a snake who recorded his clients, nonetheless.
