John Fund: In Kavanaugh confirmation fight, will Dems be hit by a Brett boomerang in November?
Fox News Opion ^ | October 04, 2018 06:09 PM | By John Fund

Polls show a narrow plurality of Americans oppose the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Democrats hope that opposition helps them win back majorities in one or both chambers of Congress in the Nov. 6 midterm elections.

But intensity is what matters in politics. Voters in the key states that will determine party control of the House and Senate appear to have turned against the tactics Democrats have used to fan the allegations of sexual assault and other sexual misconduct against Kavanaugh.

The reason for the greater enthusiasm of GOP voters to turn out can be explained by widespread anger at the unfair and outrageous tactics of the left in trying to block Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation. By shooting so low against Kavanaugh, Democrats may have actually shot themselves in the foot.

As the Wall Street Journal editorialized Thursday: “Republicans have figured out that if the left can willfully, even gleefully, destroy a man as distinguished as Brett Kavanaugh, they can and will do it to any conservative who threatens their grip on power. ..Voters know this is about the left’s will to power by any means necessary.”

Of course, it would be ironic if the all-out assault against Brett Kavanaugh wound up helping Republicans solidify their control of the Senate, which in turn would make it easier for President Trump to fill yet another vacancy on the Supreme Court.

But politics is full of ironies. Democrats may discover they should have thought more carefully before they launched their scorched-earth offensive to keep Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court.

Those lawyers who signed the anti-Kavanaugh letter will have a hard time getting hired by the large law firms who do business before the Supreme Court and Justice Kavanaugh

They will IF republicans running for office campaign hard on how vile, disgusting, pathetic, and evil the left were towards Bret- Hammer home constantly, how vile the left were- run adds showcasing how vile they were- showcase adds showing the violent left screaming and kicking women in the head, (Yes, i know it was Canada where that happened, but make the point that the left are unhinged, even in other countries)

The right NEEDS to exploit the deplorableness of the left’s actions constantly because people’s memories are short- and independents NEED to see that the choice of votign for a lefty is a choice to vote for someone who holds Vile agenda driven partisanship

Nope... they will be hit by a Kavanugh WRECKING BALL!

Any dream of taking back the house by Dems is GONE...

And the GOP who was going to gain 6 or more seats, very likely could wind up with double digit gains.

And let me say this.... If by some surprise the senate does not vote to confirm Kavanaugh...

President Trump should openly state, I will resubmit Kavanaugh after the new Senate is seated... I will not let this character assassination stand.

I have ZERO problem letting the fall election be completely a referendum on the direction of the Supreme Court..

25 years of Finestein/Boxer from the Thomas hearings. If that’s what it takes. No sure fire easy nominee available unless it’s Garland. My plan: Trump next time will offer Garland in return for a BIG concession on domestic policy. 80% of Democrats have to agree. If not then his ‘threat’ should be Roy Moore SCOTUS. Heh heh.

When the democrats lose, they won’t be able ro blame the Russians like they planned. Everybody will know why they lost: because of their visceral militancy.

Still no clue in the media set what has been unleashed here.

There are now open major GOP upside scenarios that previously were completely unrealistic, such as 250+ seat majorities.

I think RUSH addressed this today, the media fed people lies with half truths ALL pointing to the "credibility" of nutcase Ford and Kavanaugh's guilt. When people were asked if the FBI report does not provide corroboration over 60% supported Kavanaugh - that's significant support, a landslide in political terms. Surprised Fund would start this with a false premise.

Hell, yes! And not in just November 2018 and not just at the federal level. The Democrats have shown themselves to be liars, obstructionists, and character assassins. When I look around my state (Texas) I see a tax cheat running for governor against Governor Abbott and a young Teddy Kennedy type who gets drunk ad tries to flee a DWI incident. The best Mr. O’Rourke can say for himself is that no one drown in the back seat of his car.

Worse than that, Kagan was never a practicing LAWYER prior to being confirmed, except a 1 1/2 year stint as a junior associate out of law school. She spent her whole life in leftist legal academia. To get her ready to be inserted on the Supreme Court, Obama appointed her as Solicitor General of the United States, the highest ranking federal courtroom attorney who argues for the position of the United States in the Supreme Court. And yet KAGAN HAD NEVER EVEN APPEARED IN A COURTROOM BEFORE and HAD NEVER ARGUED A CASE BEFORE.

Kagan was one of the worst qualified nominees every to be confirmed to the court. And yet nobody says a word.
