Judge bars New Hampshire proof of residency requirement for new voters

(Reuters) - A New Hampshire judge on Monday put on hold a law requiring some voters to present proof of residency when they register, saying it would lengthen lines at polling places and make it difficult for students, disabled voters and others to cast ballots.

The temporary injunction against the Republican-backed law comes two weeks before U.S. Congressional elections that will determine whether opposition Democrats or U.S. President Donald Trump’s Republicans retain full control of the federal government’s legislative branch.

The measure, which passed largely along party lines and went into effect last year, required those seeking to register within 30 days of an election to present documents proving that they live in the area where they intend to vote. Without such proof, they must agree to either send it in within 10 days or the state will seek to verify their domicile.

The law does not require proof of address when voting.

#18. I’m partially disabled and have a state DMV Card that says so. Also have a handicapped parking space card.

Hell, I even found my congressional staff paycheck slip from 1974 the other day.

Would they want to see my soon-to-be-valuable SEARS employee badge? I’ve got that too plus the button from the head of the Hoa Hao religious/military sect in So. Vietnam which he gave me in 1970. Hell, I could be one of their leaders if I wanted too but I’m not into dual citizen. Never registered to vote in one of their elections.

Being a citizen of my Democrat-ruled/ruined state is enough of a burden. You want some stinking taxes bills? I’ve got enough to paper Richmond, St. Petersburg, and Norfolk.

Proof of residency? We don’t need no stinkin’ proof. Obama told us so. Holder told us so. Tom Perez told us so.

Remember this state had 5000 illegal votes cast that caused the Republican party to lose a senate seat..

For its treason,
NH should LOSE all input to the Electoral college.

Its foreign votes are no longer valid.

Great, another judge denying the will of the people again.

I live in NH and ever election cycle thousands of people abuse the “Same Day Registration” crap. Bus loads of college kids drive around from county to county registering to vote and vote Rat.

That is why we have Hassin as a Senator and Trump lost NH last time ... fact as reported by the NH Secretary of State.

The same will happen again next month.

I hope Sununu gets this to the NH Supreme Court fast.

As an election worker in NH, I can concur with this.
What we noticed (and reported) was many people (probably from Mass) coming in with NH Driver’s licenses issued on Nov 8, 2016 - the same day as the presidential election.

If an election judge or selectman was to simply do it anyway, there isn’t a thing that judge could do to stop it.

Someone should ask the judge what problems already exist as far as long lines and how many are currently inconvenienced...to prove he has a basis for his blather...

Swamp creature:

Judge kenneth-c-brown

Before joining Bleakley Platt, Mr. Brown was a tax attorney with Coopers & Lybrand in New York City, then served as Trial Attorney for the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington D.C

Can’t this judge’s ruling be appealed?

Congress could take care of this rot under its Article III authority . . . but that would involve resolve. Thank the 17th Amendment.
