I feel and believe that I'm good at what I do for a living. That said, I don't think that this qualifies me as an expert in everything else in life. Science encompasses a very broad spectrum of investigation and ‘expertise’. It's hard enough to be at the cutting edge of a very finite area of science, let alone be a scientist AND an expert on matters that are well beyond science and that are predicated on spirituality and philosophy. I don't care if every Nobel Prize-winning scientist over the past two decades signed a letter or petition. It's no different than if my neighbors did the same.

I remember a scientist who was very good at electronics who thought he was an expert on biochemistry and insisted Vitamin C could cure cancer...
