The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said Monday that U.S. military personnel will not interact with immigrants approaching the U.S. border after President Trump deployed thousands of troops to prepare for the caravan.
"There is no plan for U.S. military forces to be involved in the actual mission of denying people entry to the United States," Gen. Joseph Dunford said, according to ABC News.
"There is no plan for the soldiers to come in with immigrants or to reinforce the Department of Homeland Security as they are conducting their mission," he continued. "We are providing enabling capability."
Military personnel will instead focusing on assisting Border Patrol staff to fill in gaps in physical barriers along the border, ABC reported.
Troops assisted in laying barbed wire along the border over the weekend.
Trump has in recent weeks made the approaching caravan of migrants a focal point of his midterm campaign message. He has painted the group as an imminent threat to national security, and dispatched the military to the border in response.
The president has suggested troops might fire upon migrants who throw rocks, but later walked back those remarks.
Critics have suggested the deployment is a political stunt intended to gin up fervor among his base of supporters.
The Pentagon is on track to send 7,000 active duty troops to the southern border to stay through Dec. 15, but Trump said he may order the military to send as many as 15,000 to meet a shrinking caravan of several thousand migrants traveling from Central America.
The troop deployment along the border could cost between $42 million to $110 million, according to an independent study released Monday.
As a matter of long proven fact, without armed troops...that wont.

If you go back four years and view the video of the Hungarians working on the barbed-wire fencing...it was all Army troops that put it up. Very effective.

Based on the list of units being deployed, I’d say that the cockroaches are going to get three hots and a cot while being “processed” and then shown the back gate to scurry off into the shadows.

IMO the 82nd and 101st should have taken the airport in mexico city with all of the independent brigades of First Army airlifted in behind them. All of III Corps would be doing a thunder run down from Texas, and the Marines along with 11th ACR come down from California.
The new border would be established along the northern outskirts of whats left of mexico city.
The area between the old border and the new one becomes a no man’s land where anyone and anything found in that zone is subject to having a Hellfire missile shoved up their a$$, or having an artillery brigade Time On Target called on them.

seems a lotta people here aren’t reading the last few words of the statement. He said “...approaching the border”. I’m sure they’ll be involved in backing Border Patrol if needed in country if invaded.

Enablers are exactly that, units that enable someone else, in this case the Border Patrol, to focus upon their job.
It is a catch all term for logistics, personnel support, UAVs, intel assets, engineering, etc... that support and allow a primary force to execute the mission, but are not directly doing it themselves.
The troop list for this mission that I saw in the media is engineer heavy. Which indicates a primary focus on barrier construction. This will help the Border Patrol use their people more effectively.
Did he qualify his statement with ‘Unless the commander in chief orders us to in which case we will follow his orders’
If he didn’t say that then to me he is trying undermine the President and should be removed from any position of command immediately.

2. The caravans won’t reach our soil...why? PDJT said/did some things behind the scenes to make Mexico’s president pee in his pants and break up the caravans along the way. Figure it out. Much like NorKo Kim was neutered before all those supposed meetings the MSM told you about.

Does he mention the contingency for the illegals actually storming the border and committing violence against those trying to stop them - I’d wager they don’t just sit back under those conditions....
I prefer invaders. An immigrant is someone who wants to come here, assimilate, and become American. These Mesoamerican hordes want nothing of the sort.
The euphemistic PC term that I hate the most is "undocumented immigrant" - as though some bureaucrat forgot to mark a checkbox somewhere, as opposed to a law breaker crossing our border.
