Trump Triumphant After Republicans Retain the Senate: 'Tremendous Success'
businessinsider.com ^ | Nov 7, 2018

President Donald Trump issued a triumphant tweet about Tuesday's midterm elections

"Tremendous success tonight," Trump said. "Thank you to all!"

Republicans made significant gains in the Senate, picking up key seats from incumbent Democrats in states where Trump won in 2016 and also turning back possible challenges in high-profile states like Texas. Holding the Senate gives Trump the opportunity to continue the historic pace of judicial nominations that have dominated the chamber's calendar in recent months.

The GOP also got major wins in toss-up governors races in states like Florida and Ohio

Redistricting and retirements made the House a near impossible task.....Sorry, I’m not gonna bag on President Trump as he did much better than any other President would in this position.

I’m not a troll Grey, and you know that. Millions of middle class taxpayers got a tax RAISE, not a tax cut, while Facebook, Amazon, Google, Twitter, and Apple got hundreds of billions in tax cuts. It is what it is. I said last year that this issue would hurt us in the House races, and I was correct.

“The House can pass all they want, it will never move in the Senate.”

The 2019/2020 congressional calendar will read like a criminal hearing. Subpoenas and investigations into nothing with an impeachment date set. Of course this will go to SCOTUS and it will be 5/4.

Their actual topic for changing the country will be socialized health care and wages for the poor. Trump loses on border wall funding, although he can take it from the military budget as a national defense item.

Trump needs to act as if 2019 is the only thing that matters.

Trump needs to build up a defense against the Democrats going after him via impeachment, leaking his taxes, and using Mueller to dirty him up for 2020.

To do this, he should do the following:

  1. As soon as the 115th Congress adjourns sine die, Trump should fire Sessions (or accept his resignation), and fire Rosenstein.
  2. Trump should recess appoint a bulldog, a fighter, a person who doesn't want a Beltway career, and who is willing to make the tough calls the way that Sessions wouldn't. Somebody outspoken, like Jeanine Pirro who appeared on stage with Trump, might be a good choice. This appointment would expire at the end of 2019, so would be immune to Senate interference for the duration.
  3. Trump should nominate a replacement for Rosenstein through the normal Senate process. Let the Senate Republican Judiciary Committee members like Lindsey Graham have a platform to counter House Democrats investigating Trump, like Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, and Jerry Nadler.
  4. The new Attorney General should immediately take control of the Mueller investigation, demanding an immediate briefing by Mueller, and potentially shutting down the investigation outright. Let the 55 Republicans in the Senate deal with Democrat howls of obstruction, since 2019 is going to be about all-out war with the Democrats. It's best in the short term to take this weapon off the table now.
  5. The new Attorney General can also take a harder line on illegal immigration actions to counter Democrat obstruction of border security.
  6. In 2020 when the recess appointment expires, Trump can formally nominate a permanent Attorney General and give Republicans another Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing to campaign from going into the 2020 election. Set the Democrats up for a repeat of their 2018 performance and show voters again what their choices are.

“...The democrats will be able to make more noise, but they won’t be able to make law. ...”

THE single most important take-away from this. Thanks for spotlighting it so succinctly.

Our judges will be pushed through and confirmed, while the dems bellow, bluster and thrash.

And you can thank Paul Ryan and John McCain for it. McCain sunk Obamacare repeal and there was only budgetary money for permanent corporate tax cuts or personal tax cuts. Not both. K Street lobbyists wanted permanent corporate tax cuts so that’s what we got. Thank you and good riddance Paul Ryan.

You're acting like Trump *wants* to spend. He's already asked agency heads to give proposals for real dollar 5% cuts.

By midsummer they will launch an impeachment that will be 24/7 on the news until the election cycle begins.

How did that work out for the Dems in the Kavanaugh hearings?

Foreign policy will grind to a stop.

The Democrat controlled House will have exactly ZERO effect on foreign
policy. It’s the US Senate that approves or rejects treaties with foreign countries.

And they will crash the economy.

With what?. They can’t pass a single crazy, job killing bill past a 55 seat majority GOO US Senate.

If I had to compromise tonight this is the split we needed.
The House can pass all they want, it will never move in the Senate. The judicial pace can now pick up steam and all of the Senate approval roles going unfilled in various agencies can get filled. 56 Senators is a lot to work with when it comes to putting the stamp on things.

This is a generational election for changing the judiciary. The house can get flipped in 2020.

Nailed it on the head. Pelosi and the Dimmocraps will overplay their hand. Two years from now we will be going to sleep by the light of a GOP Moon.

That is purely protest votes, and if they’d nurture a young conservative who has a bit of Trumpishness, even blue state House seats could be won. My district is the only blue one in IL outside the Chicago area and that’s a shame, but we’ve got to have better quality candidates that are worth voting for, not just the ones who benefit from those of us who voted the straight R ticket to send a message.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
How about a GOP candidate school or at least a workshop to get new candidates up to speed with all the issues.

Obama and Clinton didn’t have to deal with 40 anti-Trumpers retiring. Otherwise Trump would have probably maintained the house too.

I noticed that it was the Never-Trumpers walking away from their responsibilities. These people should be shunned by the GOP and especially the Teapartiers for the traitors they are.

We have two wins coming our way:

1. If Justice Thomas decides to retire, we will have another new and younger conservative supreme.

When, Ruthie receives her just reward and moves on, we will have another young conservative Supreme. In two years our new Senate can appoint a lot of great and young conservative federal judges across America.

2. This Midterm-result-is-best-case-scenario-for-investors as per Fox Business:

The expected outcome from midterms, according to Goldman Sachs, is for a Democratic-controlled House and a Republican Senate majority. According to history, this could be the best-case scenario for the S&P 500 one year later, with a potential 20 percent appreciation for the broad-based U.S. stock market index.

As previously reported by FOX Business, Goldman Sachs’ political economists believe Democrats will gain control of the House and the Republicans will retain a slim Senate majority after midterms. A divided Congress would mean increased equity volatility and an uncertain future for infrastructure spending while pharmaceutical stocks could benefit, the bank’s analysts explained in a research note.

The stock market fares the worst, in the short-term, when both the House and the Senate flip, dropping over 1 percent in the month following the election. Longer-term, however, they snap back, and on average have been up over 4 percent three months after the election and up 16.9 percent one year later, according to Dow Jones Market Data

Smoke and noise lasts a few news cycles or even a few months, but Trump’s nominees to the judiciary are going to have impact for decades.

That is the real wave across America.

You’re clueless. Pelosi won’t admit it yet, but she just became Trump’s bitch and whipping post. The hag is getting jack shit enacted, instead she will be getting a government shutdown and wholesale reduction in government employees and spending.
