Now President Trump is even more likely to get re-elected (barf alert)
Daily Mail ^ | November 7th 2018 | Justin Webb

One clear message seems to have emerged from the mid-term elections in the United States: the under-estimation of the political powers of Donald Trump by his opponents is going to have to stop.

The idea that he is little more than a racist; the notion that his supporters are Neanderthals; or that his economic boom is a mirage that makes little difference to ordinary people – all of this is blown apart by results that underline across America the political appeal of this President.

Like it or not, he is here to stay. And assuming he chooses to run in 2020, his chances have been enhanced, not diminished, by what happened this week. The official odds on him being in the White House until 2024 have already shortened.

His opponents, the Democratic party, fired up their voter base as much as they could.

They threw everything they had into this set of races for Congressional seats across America, and in races for State Governor mansions, too.

They called for this to be a ‘wave election’ – in which a Democratic blue wave would sweep the polls and the nation would give a huge thumbs down to the President.

They wanted this to be the kind of election that goes down in history as the moment a whole nation looked at itself in the mirror and changed course, changed mood.

In Britain you would think of 1945 and the Labour landslide victory that unseated Churchill even though he’d just won the war, or 1979 and Mrs Thatcher coming to power.

Well, in America in 2018 that did not happen. It’s undoubtedly true that the Democrats had some real successes.

They took back control of the House of Representatives and managed to get some people elected who will energise their supporters in

Because of stuff like this;

“Even worse, according to many Americans, was the recent racism that saw a so-called ‘migrant caravan’ heading towards the southern border of the US treated by the President as a kind of national security threat, rather than simply a group of poor people trying to get to America.”

We mustn't get overconfident. President Trump got elected by winning Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. All three of those states turned blue on Tuesday.

And also MN went bluer than hardly anyone expected. It’s likely off the table again for 2020, as is CO, NV, and VA.

But Ohio is off the table for Democrats for the forseeable future.

“All three of those states turned blue on Tuesday.”

They voted blue this time, because of redistricting and the goodies promised by Democrats.

The key thing is that Trump has not given them a reason to go back to being blue. They voted for him based on his promises, and Trump has kept many (particularly judges), and plans to do his damn best to keep the remaining ones (the Wall, being at the top).

But, of course, I agree. The Dems, probably TODAY, are working with huge amounts of money to see what makes these independent voters tick...and will try to promise whatever is needed to bring them back.

One thing though - the Illegal count in these states is still relatively small and black voters are also not that numerous (and already match, or exceed, white turnout)...so they really don’t have much to draw from.

It would help if any of the Republican candidates here would put up a damn fight. They haven’t run a decent national candidate in many years, just a bunch of weaklings who have no idea how to fight.

That's because they are.

We had a presidential election on Tuesday? Who won? Because I didn’t hear of one

Sarcasm aside

Can’t compare lousy run of the mill boring republican candidates to President Trump, you just can’t

The moderates/independents don’t care about party politics and many people don’t bother with non presidential races. So the democrats flipped 26-27 house seats last Tuesday, big deal. That doesn’t mean anything at this point.

The Democrats did not "flip" 27 house seats.

An unprecedented 45 anti-Trump incumbent Republicans gave up house seats they no longer wanted. 27 of the seats were filled by Democrats who did want them.

Had those 45 never-Trump dimwits not retired/resigned we would be talking a different election outcome.

Bart Alert is a courtesy to Freepers for articles that would make a Freeper barf. Why are you alerting Dims and NTs that they make get sick?

I say good riddance

At least we know the trash is on the other side of the fence and not in our own party.

The less never trumpers we have, the stronger our party can be
