Ill do the math. For an independent to win in a three-person race, one or both of the major parties would have to receive less than 33-1/3 percent of the vote. With their built-in organizational advantages, neither established party would ever lose that badly. In addition, a lot of the independent voters are in Trumps base. Johns ceiling as an independent is 20 percent.
I’m reminded Kasich did the math pretty well during the Gingerich revolution when they balanced the budget (which is the sole achievement Kasich has been hanging his hat on since then), so why avoid doing the math on this one ? Puzzling . Delusion, I guess.
