Stephen Moore: Another government report is dead wrong on fragile state of our planet
TheHill ^ | Stephen Moore

What is it with the modern left and the mainstream media that makes them so enamored with predictions of the coming apocalypse? Perhaps it is thanks to the old rule of journalism that bad news sells newspapers.

The media has broadcast far and wide the latest primal scream by the federal government and hundreds of scientists that all life on earth by the end of the century could be severely threatened due to climate change. Chicago could turn into Phoenix and its desert conditions. Economic losses will eventually total trillions of dollars. Early death, food shortages, and pestilence will become the norm without “radical” changes in the way we live and use energy. The alarmist report warns that climate change is already destroying the planet, as evidenced by the strange occurrence of natural disasters that have almost never happened in history, like forest fires in California, hurricanes in Florida, and floods in other nations.

How could a government report prepared by hundreds of scientists and with the official imprimatur of the federal government be wrong? The obvious answer is that they have been consistently wrong for decades in predictions of environmental devastation. Anyone over the age of 50 knows that we have heard these sensational, false malthusian forecasts from the federal government, and that reality has contradicted them in almost every instance. Look at history and consider the track record.

In the 1960s, the world became captivated by the likes of media darling and Stanford biologist Paul Ehrlich, who warned of a population bomb as humans propagated like field mice. He said people will live elbow to elbow, leading to mass starvation, and there was a 50/50 bet that Britain would survive as a nation. India, we were told, was beyond saving.

“We’re so self-important. Everybody’s going to save something now. “Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save those snails.” And the greatest arrogance of all: save the planet. Save the planet, we don’t even know how to take care of ourselves yet. I’m tired of this shit. I’m tired of f-ing Earth Day. I’m tired of these self-righteous environmentalists, these white, bourgeois liberals who think the only thing wrong with this country is that there aren’t enough bicycle paths. People trying to make the world safe for Volvos. Besides, environmentalists don’t give a shit about the planet. Not in the abstract they don’t. You know what they’re interested in? A clean place to live. Their own habitat. They’re worried that some day in the future they might be personally inconvenienced. Narrow, unenlightened self-interest doesn’t impress me.

The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics, continental drift, solar flares, sun spots, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles … hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets and asteroids and meteors, worldwide floods, tidal waves, worldwide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, recurring ice ages … And we think some plastic bags and some aluminum cans are going to make a difference? The planet isn’t going anywhere. WE are!

We’re going away. Pack your shit, folks. We’re going away. And we won’t leave much of a trace, either. Maybe a little Styrofoam … The planet’ll be here and we’ll be long gone. Just another failed mutation. Just another closed-end biological mistake. An evolutionary cul-de-sac. The planet’ll shake us off like a bad case of fleas.

The planet will be here for a long, long, LONG time after we’re gone, and it will heal itself, it will cleanse itself, ’cause that’s what it does. It’s a self-correcting system. The air and the water will recover, the earth will be renewed. And if it’s true that plastic is not degradable, well, the planet will simply incorporate plastic into a new paradigm: the earth plus plastic. The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, “Why are we here?”

Plastic...asshole.”

So many scientists. So little science.

No, Moore. Trump will have to address the nation about this. Explain his reasons. Suburban white women believe in climate change and they are swing voters. Trump can get them back on jobs, but for the love of God, speak more precisely on why you don’t agree. We shouldn’t have lost Johnson County and DuPage County, suburban GOP bastions.

Is it true that 100% of the conclusions were generated by old computer models?? I heard someone with knowledge of the so called research project make the statement.

I am entertained how the previous climate change forecasts were wrong but we shouldn’t question the new forecast.

Add global warming hoax to your ever increasing list of leftist positions.

The warming hoax is designed to give more power to the state and take away freedom. The left uses any fake issue they can to increase government control with the ultimate goal of reaching pure communism.

Conservatives don’t want the USA to become Cuba or North Korea.

By the way, another commie crook, Espy, lost in Mississippi yesterday. The list of your favorite commies losing grows bigger all the time. Of course, your cesspool state of NJ voted in the commie crook Menendez, but that is the exception.

More BS. The left wishes to destroy America. They are power hungry as well as being ego maniacs.

I don’t believe in climate change.

I’m saying that Trump needs to be more specific about why and explain it in a clear way! That is all I am saying.

The media twists his words. He needs to address the nation instead of using Twitter. The media distorts his Tweets.

I don’t give a damn about Espy. I’m focused on get suburban conservatives back to Jersey, especially on the Garden State Parkway belt.

You, like me and other conservatives should be concerned about the suburbs. Conservatives can’t lose the suburbs. Let’s focus on that, instead of arguing about me and my positions. I’m a rock ribbed suburbanite conservative. Let’s not play games here.

The climate constantly changes, we mere mortals have very minimal impact on it.

“Normal” climate over the last million years or so is ice age around 90% of the time. We have had the fortune to live during an inter glacial period. We are entering a solar minimum which will likely produce another little ice age.

All the global warming types mainly talk about everything we are doing that is changing the climate, one seldom hears a word about that bright object in the sky which is by far the largest driver of our weather.

The science is really solid on solar minimums and their cycles.

Early death, food shortages, and pestilence will become the norm

Indeed it will. Revelation sums it up nicely.

I won't be here...

Aren’t we all supposed to be dead now due to the destruction of the Rain Forests? I haven’t heard a word about them in years.

I’m saying that Trump needs to be...

He needs to address the nation

He's done quite well without listening to nonsensical advice from the left like yours.

I’m focused on get suburban conservatives back to Jersey

No conservative wants to live in a state that throws you in jail for having the wrong ammunition or the wrong length barrel on a rifle. NJ sucks.

You, like me and other conservatives...

I'm nothing like you in any way. Unfortunately for you, your posts are available for all to see, including me.

I notice you've been a very busy woman today on FR. Lots of crap posted, the never-ending obsession with "suburban white women" ... and race. At least you didn't push a rump ranger story today. That's an improvement.

Here's an interesting nugget you posted:

Trump is just not well liked in NJ, for some reason.

Of course he's not. Trump has destroyed Obozo's legacy. Obozo is now on tour, ranting and raving about it, sometimes waving his hands, sometimes in tears of rage with dozens of I's and me's sprinkled around in his commie lectures. 70% of NJ loves the commie Kenyan, so it's no surprise they hate Trump for what he's done to their god.

Here's another nugget that helps explain your confusion on conservatism:

NJ used to be reliably conservative until the 1990s. Christie Whitman, Newt Gingrich, Tom DeLay, George W. Bush failed to aggressively campaign and put resources in NJ to make NJ a red state.

There is only one conservative in that group and that's Delay. Gingrich and Bush are disappointing squishes and Whitman is a gun grabbing, baby killing liberal.
