I get your point, but not all Frenchmen vote for leftists. The elite everywhere rarely consider how their policies affect the “little guy”.
In France the Left has so cemented itself into power that genuine alternative candidates and policies are not permitted. French conservatives tend to emigrate if they can.
If it’s the folks were already on the right side of the fence, then nothing will change.
If folks are being converted to the right, then things will change.
Some here saw the massive Trump rallies as signs we wouldn’t lose the house.
Though the fact that we added senate seats in a midterm (a VERY unusual thing) was pretty great.
France has imported millions lazy, ignorant, violent Muzzies who have no intention of assimilating with nary a protest from the Frenchies. But if the price of gas goes up a franc or two the populace is ready to burn down the entire country. Boy do they deserve it.

According to news reports, gasoline prices in France are already 3 times those in the US, and now they are being asked to pay higher taxes on it as well. How would we react???
